The Senior Specialist, Senior Buyer will report to the Associate Director, Procurement, and will maintain strong alignment to the pharmaceutical operations network strategy and initiatives. This role will work directly with manager level cross-functional stakeholders including operations, supply chain, stakeholders at the site and within the network to lead and execute operational buying, procurement, inventory management, and warehousing & logistics, related activities.

This end-to-end supply chain flex function will support on site manufacturing operation continuity and requires a strong ability to manage multiple, shifting priorities on a daily basis.  The role requires strong attention to detail and intermediate written and verbal communication skills. There will be a focus on solving complex issues with a broad perspective - presenting data, conclusions, and best practices in multiple forums at site and network levels. The ability to work autonomously and in a team environment is key.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Must comply with all Security guidelines, Environmental, Health and Safety regulations, and the current Good Manufacturing Practices required by the job function. 
  • Interpreting and analyzing Material Requirements Planning (MRP) demand requirements and planning/procuring one or more of the following categories: Finished Product, Bulk Product, API, Raw Material, Components, Operating Supplies, Equipment, and Maintenance supplies to support the manufacturing facility located in Phoenix. 
  • Basic knowledge of fundamental concepts of materials requirements, planning, and procurement including, but not limited to: inventory management, cycle counts, expediting, order placement and logistics.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the full range of concepts, practices in the materials planning field, including reorder point planning, contract communication/execution.
  • Maintains system planning parameters (e.g., lot size, lead time and safety stocks) and performs tracking through the material control checklist.
  • Conduct investigations and root cause analysis on any supply disruptions or material quality issues and report out on corrective actions.
  • Understanding and management of expiration due dates and drive mitigation plans to prevent expiring material.
  • Identifies, escalates, triages, and resolves material shortages before they affect production.
  • Acts in support of new product launches and/or special projects (e.g., participates in planning meeting and readjusts purchasing plans, ensures specifications are in place and approved by supplier).
  • Organize product transportation between manufacturing sites, 3 PLs and customers and coordinate import/export activities
  • Works closely with internal stakeholders within the Supply Chain, MS&T, Manufacturing Ops and Engineering departments along with other Finance/Admin functions to ensure a seamless customer service. 
  • Implements direct material strategic category initiatives and projects at the Phoenix site for Commercial Pharmaceutical manufacturing in alignment with Global Procurement category leaders and the Site Supply Chain Lead.
  • Achieves and exceeds metrics including value beyond savings, savings avoidance, reduction in cost and invoicing compliance.
  • Supports and situationally leads Sourcing activities related to existing and new supplier qualifications, readiness, assessment and execution of projects including tech transfers.
  • Supports supplier risk assessment across direct materials and works with global teams to ensure segmentation of key relationships.
  • Supports and implements effective direct material and indirect sourcing negotiations, in compliance with global policies and procedures. Reviews and scores suppliers in request for proposal (RFP) process as part of supplier selection process.
  • Develops effective relationships with key suppliers in a way that builds mutual respect, trust, and drives performance in a manner consistent with BMS values and behaviors.
  • Supports the timely completion of assigned activities related to direct material supplier notifications, change control requirements and supplier change notices.
  • Supports Impact Assessments related to new product launches and new suppliers.
  • Interacts with different functional areas (Compliance, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, Quality Control and Manufacturing Technology) to contemporaneously achieve change control requirements.
  • Collaborates with Supplier Quality to support Supplier Alerts for direct materials.
  • Supports purchase price variance (PPV), work order variance (WOV), Projection 1 (P1), Budget and Projection 2 (P2) direct material Financial monitoring for the site.
  •   Requires travel < 10% of the time.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred, preferably in Business Management/Business Administration
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience required.
  • APICS (American Production and Inventory Control Society) or ISM (Institute for Supply Management) certification preferred. 
  • Strong proficiency in SAP/Oracle/Track-wise/PeopleSoft, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, preferred.
  • Positive, collaborative approach to problem solving.  Demonstrated success working in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated high degree of independence, requiring minimal supervision from management.
  • Thrives working in a fast-paced environment and proven ability to manage multiple projects/tasks effectively.
  • Experience in a matrix organization preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • The incumbent must analyze complex numerical values on a daily basis.
  • The incumbent will be required to work in an office/cubicle environment with nearby conversations and noise.
  • The incumbent often works for extended periods alone, up to 8 hours per shift.
  • The incumbent will be required to work in an office/cubicle environment and occasional conference room settings.

Compensation Overview:

Phoenix - AZ - US: $77,640 - $94,080

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
