Role purpose

The role of the Solution Architect is responsible for the development of the media technology solutions and mapping the business requirements to TBS systems/technical platforms to ensure they are in line with the customer requirements.

How the role contributes to business strategy?

This role is a core part of the sales process that designs (and documents) high- and low-level blueprints to support TBS Sales & Commercials in closing any opportunity deemed actionable by sales procedure. This is about establishing structural visibility and consistency from the start of the workflow and can be easily linked to the business strategy.

The measurable deliverables and outcomes of this role

The successful candidate for this role needs to combine sound design, scoping, pre-sales & commercial acumen capabilities together with solid Broadcast video knowledge and apply these to the designing of complex media technology platforms both in domestic and global environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scope, design, cost and document technical solutions required to address customer requirements.

  • Assist and co-ordinate closely with the commercial teams to develop & strengthen customer accounts by providing sound technical & pre-sales assistance.

  • Always use standardised designs to simplify the project chain and maximise the effectiveness of the program.

  • Lead RFI/RFP proposal creation with internal stakeholders and provide Scope, design, cost and document technical solutions required to address customer requirement.

  • Focused artefacts to align all teams to deliverables.

  • Create artefact-based structure for commercial team.

  • Assist in the translation of business requirements to deliver solution elements into realisable, services, or systems and/or platform infrastructure in a timely, high quality and cost-effective way to ensure the operational capability to deliver.

  • Assess capability of vendor solutions and offerings to meet business requirements and manage vendor technology delivery.

  • Ensure architectural solutions are re-usable, scalable, reliable, manageable, and operable and aligned with TBS roadmaps.

  • Establish and maintain current state baseline design documentation within TBS throughout the technology lifecycle; including end-of-life transitions and migrations as required.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with peer groups and key internal stakeholders and where applicable, maintain agreed external stakeholder relationships relevant to the achievement of business objectives.

  • Secures input from all necessary stakeholders and adapts solutions as necessary, to ensure appropriate support.

  • Actively use internal process applications to track and report on solution / project progress.

  • Providing support and expert guidance to Principal – Solutions & Integration.

  • Achieve clearly visible and signed off transition of the customers’ requirements to on-air operations through communication and proper documentation

  • Meet project budgets within expectations.

  • Achieve scoping of all projects in a timely and transparent manner

  • Create integration design and costing documentation.

  • Achieve positive feedback from internal and external clients and peers

Key Decision Rights

The role will be ultimately and independently accountable for a decision around any customer solutions and this includes Procurement, integrations with Telstra and other third parties plus assurance support plan from L1, 2, and 3 whilst making sure it fits TBS and Telstra strategies.

Deep engagement with the customer to develop an in depth understanding of their needs, behaviours and goals and synthesising research to generate insights and recommendations

Designing broadcast integration solutions

Creating resilient integration and migration solution blueprints that meets the broadcasting needs of the customer and industry standards

Advocating infrastructure efficiency

Ensuring that proposed designs are maximizing the use of the organisation’s networks and assets as efficiently as possible to maximize the growth of the business

Developing business growth

Balancing technical design throughput and commercial targets of the organisation to become a catalyst for business growth

Collaborating globally    

Consistently delivering a simple and high-quality customer experience by collaborating and integrating with others from across our Enterprise   

Stakeholder management           

Identifying and managing key stakeholders to gain their support and deliver outcomes          

Qualifications/Experiences

Essential

  • 4+ years’ experience in a range of Media Broadcast disciplines, an operational background is highly desirable.

  • 3+ years’ experience in Sales Engineering / Pre-Sales

  • A working knowledge of broadcast technology and systems including industry trends and emerging technologies.

  • A detailed operational understanding of topics such as fibre, networking, storage and broadcast technologies is essential.

  • A working knowledge of broadcast operational and transmission workflows, and a good understanding across multiple broadcast disciplines

  • Excellent understanding of all broadcast technologies including baseband SD and HD, ASI, IP, fibre delivery, SMPTE standards, satellite technologies, Internet etc.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • An understanding of IT networks and storage as it relates to broadcast/transmission systems.

  • Good presentation and documentation skills

  • Excellent inter-personal skills

  • Specific under-graduate qualifications i.e engineering, computer science

High desirable

  • Experience defining technical solutions designed to exceed 99.999% reliability.

  • Experience in leading the design of multiple high-profile broadcast media integration projects.

  • Operational background in broadcast media transport/telecommunications

  • Network certifications and knowledge (Cisco, Arista)
