We have an exciting opportunity at nbn for a Senior Solution Engineer to join the FTTx Solution Engineering and Delivery team reporting to the Senior Manager, the role will be located in Sydney or Melbourne.
A bit about your role
As a Senior Solution Engineer at nbn, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the NBN network, with FTTx technologies making up more than 70% of the total footprint. In this position, you will bring complex FTTx network solutions to life by providing technical leadership across detailed design development, testing, and production deployment. You will ensure solutions meet business requirements, align with architectural intent, and uphold engineering standards. A key part of the role involves making design decisions that consider scale, OSS impacts, security, automation, and innovation, while also managing delivery team commitments and tracking risks, issues, and dependencies. You will build strong relationships with vendors and delivery partners, ensuring quality outcomes across all engagements.
As an FTTx engineering expert, you will guide internal and external teams through operational, lifecycle, capacity, and network performance challenges. You will help evolve engineering standards by collaborating with peer engineers, architects, and operational teams to drive continuous improvement. You will also create tactical and strategic solutions to complex network issues with significant operational and financial impact, while monitoring engineering performance metrics and driving improvement initiatives. Collaboration is central to this role, working closely with Product Owners, Project Managers, Solution Architects, Vendors and Delivery Partners, Operations, and Capacity & Performance teams.
A bit about you
To succeed in this role, you will bring extensive engineering experience in solution engineering and solution delivery within a large telecommunications provider or vendor, specialising in one or both of the following areas: FTTx Access Networks (GPON/XGSPON, VDSL2, Intent-Based Networking) or FTTx EMS Applications (containerised and virtualised platforms, automation using Jenkins and Ansible, and scripting with Python and Shell). You are skilled at leading virtual technical teams and thrive on delivering new engineering solutions that meet both business and operational needs.
You are experienced in working within the SAFe Agile methodology and use tools such as JIRA and Confluence to plan and manage your work. You are confident in leading discussions, making design decisions, supporting escalations, and applying strong analytical skills to complex FTTx network challenges. You move comfortably between high‑level architectural thinking and detailed configuration work. With excellent communication skills across technical and non‑technical audiences, strong stakeholder engagement capabilities, and polished technical writing, you bring clarity and influence to your work. You have a growth mindset, a commitment to continuous learning, and a strong sense of purpose in contributing to a network that supports communities nationwide. Above all, you bring a generous, team‑centred spirit to everything you do.
