Your Team & Role

Prudential is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to architect, build, and optimize a large-scale, Python-based actuarial annuities projection and valuation model. You’ll join a uniquely collaborative team blending actuarial and engineering expertise, working at the intersection of advanced financial modeling, software design, and operational excellence to deliver robust, production-ready solutions for annuity products. In this role, you’ll partner with actuaries, quantitative analysts, and DevOps engineers to ensure our platform is scalable and innovative. Your work will have a direct impact on Prudential’s business outcomes as we advance the future of actuarial technology.

Here is What You Can Expect on a Typical Day

  • Build applications ensuring that the code follows latest coding practices and industry standards, using modern design patterns and architectural principles; with guidance, actively code against the roadmap
  • Develop high quality, well documented and efficient code adhering to all applicable Prudential standards
  • Collaborate with product owners in understanding needs and defining feature stories, tech leads in defining technical design and other team members to understand the system end-to-end and deliver robust solutions that bring about business impact
  • Write unit, integration tests and functional automation, researching problems discovered by quality assurance or product support, developing solutions to address the problems
  • Bring an understanding of relevant and emerging technologies, begin to identify opportunities to provide feedback to the team, and embed learning and innovation in the day-to-day

The Skills & Expertise You Bring

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 3-5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Advanced programming skills in Python and/or PyTorch (with emphasis on tensor operations)
  • Experience developing and maintaining large, monolithic applications—ideally in financial modeling, valuation, or actuarial systems
  • Deep understanding of how source code maps to GPU and CPU architectures
  • Proficient with CI/CD pipelines, deployment best practices, and hands-on DevOps engineering
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, AWS, Amazon RedShift, GitHub, and PostgreSQL
  • Back-end engineering expertise, with experience on front-end
  • Strategic thinker and independent problem solver—comfortable with ambiguity and high-stakes problem solving
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to non-technical audiences and stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality
  • Preferred qualifications:

    • Direct experience with actuarial or financial modeling, particularly annuities valuation and forecasting

    • Demonstrated experience mentoring or developing junior engineers

    • Familiarity with the fintech or insurtech sector

    • Experience with high-level programming languages such as C++ or Java

    • Strong linear algebra fundamentals for matrix or tensor calculations

What we offer you:

Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $104,000.00 to $171,600.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
