Join our team in Rockford, Illinois as a Senior Software Engineer working on the full life-cycle development of electric power distribution systems for aerospace applications. You will collaborate in a team environment, designing, implementing, testing, and certifying software (typically in C) to aerospace standards (DO-178B/C, DAL A–C).

You will design, develop, and document control and diagnostic systems, perform timing, memory, and performance analyses, and actively support hardware and software product development. You’ll have the opportunity to shape best practices by participating in software councils and audits, while collaborating closely with equipment designers across disciplines. You will ensure that software and hardware standards are met and help define company-wide software configuration and building procedures.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate in a team environment, including remote members, on the full life-cycle development of electric power distribution systems—planning, defining requirements, designing, verifying, and certifying software (typically in C) to aerospace standards (DO-178B/C, DAL A–C).

  • Participate in the software discipline council to help improve and adapt standard work and department practices.

  • Assist the Software Lead with Stage of Involvement (SOI) audits and process reviews.

  • Measure and analyze software designs to ensure they meet both current and future business and product needs.

  • Build, implement, and maintain procedures that support hardware and software product development.

  • Operate equipment and computer systems for testing, software design, and validation purposes.

  • Design, develop, document, test, and debug control and diagnostic systems using logical and mathematical solutions.

  • Collaborate with the Software Lead and equipment designers on multidisciplinary research, planning, and development of electronic data processing systems.

  • Perform timing, memory, and stack usage analyses to optimize software performance.

  • Analyze system capabilities to determine end-user needs and resolve issues related to program intent, outputs, and data acquisition.

  • Ensure compliance with hardware and software standards throughout development.

  • Design and implement build procedures supporting hardware and software product development and deployment.

  • Contribute to developing company-wide software configuration standards when applicable.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

  • Experience working with government or aerospace standards and proven ability to track, manage, and verify software requirements throughout the full development lifecycle.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information.

  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal supervision.

  • Experience with Synergy CR/CM, DOORS, and MATLAB.

  • Familiarity with Collins secondary distribution products.

  • Knowledge of Collins products and suppliers is a plus.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
