SENIOR RISK MANAGER

The role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Risk Manager to lead the has enterprise-wide accountability for establishing, maintaining, and continuously improving Saab’s risk management framework. In addition, the Senior Risk Manager has specific accountability for the Enterprise Partnering Agreement (EPA) risk management process for Systems Delivery Group  

The successful candidate will play a key role in assisting other business lines and functions on risk management issues, ensuring robust governance practices and supporting strategic decision making as directed by the Chief Legal Counsel from time to time.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Establish, maintain and continuously Saab’s enterprise risk management framework including reporting to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) on the management of enterprise risks.
  • Embed risk management within the SDG in relation to the EPA and facilitate risk reporting to the Commonwealth as required by the EPA.
  • Promote a risk culture across Saab and, in particular, in SDG and other business lines and functions as directed by the Chief Legal Counsel.
  • Working with the ELT, business lines and functions, define risk taxonomy, appetite, methodology and reporting standards.
  • Facilitate identification and assessment of enterprise and project risks.
  • Analyze risk information for the ELT and identify normalization of deviance and “Swiss-cheese” effects.
  • Review and challenge business risk assessments and recommend appropriate risk treatments and mitigation strategies
  • Monitor risk assessment and emerging risk across the organization to support proactive risk management ad informed decision making
  • Support risk-informed decision-making on major projects with SDG, and other business lines and functions as directed by the Chief Legal Counsel.
  • Ensure clarity of risk ownership with SDG, and other business lines and functions as directed by the Chief Legal Counsel.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home will be discussed after probation and manager’s approval.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Demonstrated understanding of best practice risk management including ISO 31000.
  • Significant experience designing, managing, and maintaining enterprise and project risk management frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of risk governance and executive decision-making processes.
  • Ability to challenge senior leaders on risk issues in a polite and respectful way.
  • Experience facilitating risk identification and assessment across complex organizations.
  • Proven capability in synthesizing risk information into clear, decision-focused insights.
  • Sound knowledge of defense, engineering or software businesses AND highly regulated security environments.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with business managers, functional leads, executives and customer representatives.
  • High level of judgement, integrity, and professional independence.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals in a team environment.

Educational Qualifications and Professional Memberships

  • Certified Practising Risk Manager.
  • Member of the Risk Management Institute of Australasia.
  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, project management or a business discipline.

As a defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Citizenship and a valid Australian Defence Security Clearance to baseline/NV1/NV2 level or have the ability to gain one. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
