For many applications, there is an ongoing need to make use of higher frequencies of the electromagnetic spectrum, which require technological innovations both for development and validation of new products. Therefore, NXP Germany is engaging in the German part of the EU R&D program “important project of common European interest” (IPCEI) for microelectronics.
As part of this program, NXP has built a brand-new facility for high frequency technologies in Hamburg: the “Terahertz Lab” serves as a system-level RF competence center supporting product development and innovation projects for multiple products lines. Further, new concepts for system-level RF validation are investigated in the sub-THz spectrum and beyond (frequency range ≥ 100 GHz). The Terahertz Lab will be a key player supporting innovation and development for the next generation of automotive radar, robotics, and the 6th generation of mobile communications (6G) within NXP.
Your Responsibilities
- Contribute to product development and innovation projects, including concept development, feasibility studies, prototyping, simulation, and validation in the context of future RF technologies.
- Conceptualize, design and implement automated RF and communications test solutions with software-controlled environments.
- Develop test specifications, test plans, and test instructions for efficient and performant test solutions.
- Analyze & troubleshoot test problems (SW, HW, measurement equipment).
- Plan and coordinate test and validation jobs according to specifications.
- Continuous improvement of lab processes, methods, and lab automation.
- Analyze and post-process measurement and simulation data, create reports and presentations.
- Perform system-level RF simulations and electro-magnetic full-wave simulations.
- Characterization and behavioral modeling of RF components and devices.
- Design, prototype, and build RF demonstrators for mmWave and sub-THz applications.
- Collaborate with internationally distributed internal and external partners (suppliers, universities, etc.).
- Mentor working students and support knowledge transfer.
- Ensure compliance with ISO9001/IATF16949 standards in documentation and procedures.
Your Profile
- Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Physics, or a comparable field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in RF engineering.
- Deep understanding of test methods and measurement techniques for RF, communications, and/or radar.
- Practical experience in software and hardware debugging and troubleshooting.
- Proficient in RF/mmWave system-level simulation tools, like Keysight SystemVue and experience with full-wave EM simulation tools, like HFSS.
- Hands-on experience with programming languages, like Python, MATLAB.
- Basic knowledge of statistical methods and data analysis.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, combined with solid project management capabilities and a solution-oriented mindset.
- Excellent analytical thinking, with a structured, quality-oriented, and well-organized work style.
- Fluent in German and English (spoken and written).
- Willing to travel internationally (~2-8 weeks/year).
Please note: The successful candidate may/will be responsible for security related tasks. The assignment may/will be in scope of security certifications, therefore a conscious and reliable way of working is necessary
