Join ING Luxembourg in our Financial Institutions team, as a Senior Relationship Manager. You will be responsible for shaping and executing tactical plans for a defined client portfolio, providing strategic advice to key clients, and overseeing all aspects of the client relationship — including relationship direction, coordination, and the end‑to‑end delivery of transactions.

The Luxembourg Wholesale Banking Team is based in Luxembourg.

Your key responsibilities

  • Act as the trusted advisor for FI clients, managing relationships at C-levels. At subsidiary level (as local Relationship Manger) or at Head-office level as a Global Relationship Banker.
  • Act as the senior client manager for key financial institutions clients, serving as the primary point of contact and steward of the overall relationship.
  • Lead cross‑regional coverage teams, coordinating corporate banking and FI‑related efforts across geographies to deliver consistent, high‑quality execution.
  • Develop and execute account strategies to drive revenue and profitability, in line with local, regional and global Account Planning.
  • Manage multi‑product origination within the integrated coverage model, ensuring seamless coordination with product partners and delivering a unified client experience.
  • Originate and cross-sell the full range of ING’s products and capabilities (Payments & Cash Management, Financial Markets, Trade Finance & Guarantees, Lending, Depositary & Custody, and Capital Markets & Advisory).
  • Drive core client‑planning routines (including Portfolio Assessment Meetings, Product Partner Meetings, and Client Team Meetings) to strengthen client engagement and expand penetration across the full ING product suite.
  • Originate, cultivate, and manage senior‑level client relationships, ensuring day‑to‑day connectivity and strategic dialogue.
  • Apply deep knowledge of financial institutions and wholesale banking, generating strategic ideas, anticipating client needs, and offering forward‑looking insights.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in full compliance with ING’s risk, regulatory, and conduct standards, maintaining a strong risk‑aware culture.
  • Deliver high‑quality presentations, strategic advice, and thematic insights to clients across the FI segment.
  • Maintain strong sector, regional, and technical expertise, ensuring continuous relevance and thought leadership in the FI market

As a Senior Relationship Manager you will also need:

  • Fluency in English and French or Dutch. German and other languages can be a plus.
  • Strong commercial instincts, identifying prospects and onboarding them through negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in Leading a Client Relationship globally for the Bank (Parent Account Manager) and submitting to Credit Committees.
  • Demonstrated Sector Expertise in Financial Institutions’ business models. In particular of the Luxembourg funds, Asset Management Insurance and Banks stakeholders.
  • Excellent command of Account Opening process in Luxembourg. In particular, strong KYC background and capacity to drive and deliver KYC requirements in timely manner for your portfolio (onboarding and refresh).
  • Strong client relationships, marketing, presentation and sales skills are essential.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with and the ability to work and communicate effectively with the immediate team, product partners and ultimately bank clients.
  • Creativity, problem solving skills, flexibility in approach and the ability to work with members of multiple product groups at the same time.
  • Ability to analyze complex client financial objectives, accounting or tax issues and alternative solutions or approaches. Ability to analyze Financial Statements.
  • Strong team player, willing to learn and assume responsibility and be enthusiastic about becoming a member of a successful and growing team.
  • The ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously & working effectively as an individual & as part of a team.
  • 15+ years of experience in Wholesale Banking / FI coverage with an established client network in Luxembourg. International experience is needed.
  • Self-motivated, tenacious and able to work with high degree of independence.
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Law, or related field.
