Overview of the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Recruiter to play a critical role in scaling Pelago. This is a recruiting-first role (approximately 70% Talent / 30% People Operations) designed for someone who can operate autonomously, partner closely with hiring managers and leaders, and bring structure to both hiring and core People programs.

You’ll own end-to-end recruiting across business and clinical roles, while also contributing meaningfully to People Operations initiatives that support employee experience, performance, and growth. As a growing company, priorities can shift seasonally. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments and enjoys building where structure is still evolving.

This role reports to our Director of Recruiting and partners closely with People Team Leadership to ensure talent and people strategies align with Pelago's growth trajectory and cultural values. This is a hybrid role with a high-collaboration rhythm (3 days/week in our NYC office).

In this role you will…

Talent & Recruiting (Primary Focus - 70%)

  • Own full-cycle recruiting end to end across multiple functions, including business and clinical roles regularly and technical roles as needed,  from sourcing and screening through scheduling, offers, and closing
  • Design and execute proactive, data-driven sourcing strategies that build diverse, high-quality talent pipelines and anticipate hiring needs
  • Partner closely with hiring managers to align on role scope, priorities, timelines, compensation, and interview plans, driving strong collaboration and shared accountability
  • Move with urgency and precision, keeping candidates and hiring teams progressing smoothly while balancing speed with thoughtful decision-making
  • Deliver a best-in-class candidate experience, ensuring hiring processes are structured, equitable, and reflective of Pelago’s mission and values
  • Use recruiting data, tools, and systems to identify bottlenecks, improve efficiency, and continuously raise the quality and consistency of our hiring practices
  • Experiment with and operationalize AI-driven tools to enhance talent discovery, forecasting, workflow efficiency, and People analytics, helping the team scale intelligently as Pelago grows

People Operations (Secondary Focus - 30%)

  • Own and evolve core People programs (onboarding, performance management, employee development, and more) to support a best in class employee experience
  • Use People data and reporting to surface insights that inform decisions around engagement, retention, and organizational health
  • Design and improve scalable People processes and tools, prioritizing efficiency, automation, and consistency as the company grows
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional, people-related projects as business priorities evolve
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for team members, providing guidance on People-related questions and navigating issues with sound judgment

The background we are looking for…

  • 5+ years of experience in Recruiting, with demonstrated ownership of full-cycle recruiting in high-growth, startup, or founder-led environments, balancing speed, quality, and candidate experience
  • Comfortable operating in high-urgency, execution-heavy recruiting environments while also engaging in People Operations and Recruiting Operations work that improves systems, programs, and long-term outcomes
  • Proven track record of working autonomously, identifying problems, proposing solutions, and moving work forward with limited oversight
  • Strong hiring partner who collaborates effectively with hiring managers, adapts quickly to shifting business priorities, and pivots as needs evolve
  • Organized, decisive, and resilient—able to manage multiple open roles and People initiatives simultaneously without losing momentum or judgment
  • Curiosity about emerging tools and technologies (including AI) and a proactive mindset toward using them to improve recruiting efficiency, decision-making, and People operations
