Senior Project Manager

The role

The Senior Project Manager provides leadership of a major and/or complex project involving multiple internal and external stakeholders. This includes the day-to-day management of the assigned Project Management Team and interaction with other groups within Saab and the end customer.

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the outcome of the project, including cost, schedule, scope, quality, customer satisfaction and any other project objectives as defined in the Contract/Project Directive.

The main focus of this role will be to manage the delivery and execution of EPA assigned tasks for the Hunter and Hobart Class Ships.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Definition, management, and ownership of the scope of work, including schedule, cost and quality outcomes for the project.
  • Provide leadership, direction and delegation to the project team, as required.
  • Development of the project approach to achieve project and business outcomes as per Project Directive, including identification of opportunity in order to maximise outcomes.
  • Prepare, monitor and revise project plans, estimates, and schedules for the project to meet the objectives set by the Project Directive and associated Business Case.
  • Assess and manage risk related to the project.
  • Lead and present status at Steering Committee Meetings, Gate Reviews, Internal Customer Reviews and Status Meetings.
  • Manage project variations and scope change.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective business change management of assigned projects
  • Comply with legislation and Company policies, processes and instructions, including those relating to non-discrimination, Health & safety, Bullying, Harassment, Violence and Aggression, and duty of care and the quality management system.
  • Treat everyone with respect, communicate regularly and openly with manager and team, and ensure all decisions are made with fairness in mind.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office, 9 day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a project management role, preferably Naval or Defence Projects.
  • Experience managing multiple high priority projects at one
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and delivering projects during developmental and formal test and integration phase of a project
  • Preferable experience managing software development projects before
  • Sound understanding of best practice Project Management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead staff within a team environment and to foster cooperation within and between teams.
  • Experience in producing and reviewing project documentation.
  • Demonstrated scheduling and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Well-developed ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to develop creative and innovative solutions

Educational Qualifications and Professional Memberships

  • Tertiary qualifications in Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or in a Business discipline (Desirable)
  • Post-Graduate Qualifications in Project Management (Desirable)
  • Project Management Certification through AIPM or other equivalent institution (Desirable)

As a defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to baseline/NV1/NV2 level or have the ability to gain one. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
