Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and versatile Senior Project Engineer to oversee and coordinate external engineering firms supporting the development, design, and delivery of energy infrastructure projects. This includes renewables (solar, wind, battery storage), combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT), high voltage interconnections, as well as geotechnical, electrical, and survey engineering disciplines.

The Senior Project Engineer will serve as the technical liaison between internal project teams and third-party engineering consultants, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with project goals, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Pre-Construction Department by actively participating in the EPC RFP process for assigned projects through contract execution
  • Coordinate and manage third-party engineering firms across multiple disciplines (renewables, CCGT, HV electrical, geotech, etc.)
  • Review scopes of work, deliverables, and schedules for engineering consultants
  • Experience creating and reviewing engineering deliverables (10/30/60/90% design packages) Ensure all engineering activities align with project timelines and budgets
  • Technical support for Supply Chain to review new BESS and PCS technologies, PV inverters, and MV transformers
  • Ongoing Project Support: Misc. tech support for projects in build & RFPs, Review Ordinance / By-laws for Developers
  • Understand the implications of various technical options and guide engineering designs to achieve the best solution for each situation
  • High Voltage coordination of early-stage single line drawings and equipment with the Grid Integration and Procurement teams
  • Review and risk analysis of site layouts
  • Ensure the execution of work in accordance with contracts and policies
  • Develop effective relationships with internal departments, contractors, suppliers, landowners, and other stakeholders
  • Support maintenance of EPCA technical specs and contracts
  • Act as the point of contact between internal development/construction teams and external engineering consultants
  • Support the RFI Process during construction of a project with external EPCs
  • Manage Owner’s Engineering Parties
  • Facilitate design coordination meetings and issue resolution discussions. Reinforce a team approach throughout the enterprise, both on projects and internal initiatives
  • Effectively communicate relevant information to superiors
  • Champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas, processes, tools, etc.
  • Support or manage the relationships with all external entities during the development phase of the project such as local government, permitting agencies, pipeline utility companies, and interconnecting utilities
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and handle, under pressure, multiple projects with a high degree of independence and professional judgment to deliver projects within deadlines
  • Additional duties as required

Education & Experience Required

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 5-7 years in the renewable energy sector or industrial construction or capital project management
  • Advanced knowledge of power generation technologies, interconnection requirements, and contractor management
  • Competency in analytical problem solving, customer/partner relationships, and technology expertise
  • Experience with High Voltage Interconnection aspects of a projects SOW
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Project, Excel), Procore, SiteTracker, and other discipline-relevant software
  • AutoCAD experience specific to project development

Additional Information

  • Travel is expected to be ~10%
  • In-office, full remote, or hybrid employment will be considered
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license

Location: The preferred location for this role is for Durham, NC. Our team operates on a hybrid schedule, with in-office schedule of three days per week.
