New York, New York Full time

Job Description:

NOTE: This role is based in New York City and encourages a minimum of two days per week in the SoHo office. Some roles or teams may require additional in-office attendance if the essential functions of the role require it.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Like a production editor, the Senior Production Editor, has an assigned list of high profile titles and is responsible for trafficking them through the production process, from manuscript to bound book and all applicable versions (Library editions, ebook versions, channel versions and exclusive editions). This includes reviewing manuscript copyedits, interior and exterior proofreads, vendor proof reviews and working with Editorial, Design and manufacturing. This position shepherds multiple projects while maintaining high standards of quality control and meeting strict deadlines, often under tight production schedules.

The Senior Prod Editor has additional responsibilities, including managing 1 direct report (Production Editor), which includes managing their title load, conducting yearly performance reviews, holding biweekly check-in meetings, and general oversight of their titles.

The Senior Prod Editor also manages the pool of freelance vendors that the Production Group hires from for proofreading, copyediting, indexing, fact checking, etc. They issue new contracts at the start of each calendar year, are responsible for filing appropriate paperwork, and regularly communicate feedback on the freelancers’ work. They also are responsible for regularly reviewing the rates of pay and implementing changes as necessary. They also grade all tests for those wishing to join the pool of freelance vendors.

The Senior Prod Editor oversees the production of sales materials and reports ongoing status of titles in a biweekly meeting with the Publisher, VP Managing Editor, Marketing Ops Specialist, and Creative Director. Meets with the PEs within the group on the status of their titles, as they relate to sales materials, to report in the biweekly meeting.
