Senior People Operations Partner

San Francisco, CA Full Time

About VSCO

VSCO (pronounced vis–co) is a complete photography platform—editing tools, portfolio sites, client workflows, and community—that helps photographers hone their craft, grow their network, and build a photography business on their terms.

VSCO is where photographers turn pro. Whether they’re landing their first paid gig or growing an established practice, VSCO champions photographers at every stage of the journey. Our mission is simple:  to close the gap between the creative life photographers want and the confidence, tools, and community they need to make it real.

We are looking for people who are driven and demonstrate initiative in taking our company mission to the next level. Employees here have the opportunity to make a big impact, and we believe that when we build together, we achieve stronger outcomes than we could alone.

Our values are critical pillars to our team culture and shape the way we hire. Read more about what you can expect when working at VSCO on our Careers Page

About You

We are looking for a People Operations Partner to own and optimize key people programs across both strategy and execution. This position reports into our Senior Manager, People, partnering most closely with G&A while serving as a cross-functional resource across the business to drive operational excellence and a seamless employee experience. This is a hybrid role based out of our San Francisco, CA office (2+ days/week).

You're ideal for this role if you thrive on switching between high-level planning and hands-on execution, with a passion for leveraging data and owning programs from inception to completion. You bring playbooks from past experience, yet aren't afraid to build from scratch when the situation calls for it. You also embrace Gen AI tools and actively look for ways to use them to streamline workflows, reduce manual work, and free up time for higher-impact work.

The Day-to-Day

  • Own our onboarding and offboarding programs end-to-end — from back-end process design to employee-facing experience — and deliver quarterly insights to leadership
  • Leverage Gen AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, and emerging HR tech) to automate repetitive processes, improve documentation, and scale people programs efficiently
  • Own and continuously improve HRIS system administration, including configuration, data integrity, internal reporting, and user support — serving as the primary point of contact for system-related questions and escalations
  • Serve as the primary owner of our vendor relationships, including our payroll provider, benefits carriers, and Employer of Record (EOR) partners — managing contracts, performance, escalations, and benefits invoice reconciliation
  • Lead payroll processing in close partnership with Accounting/Finance, including reconciliation, audit, and month-end close support
  • Manage Leave of Absence (LOA) administration across all states, including coordination with employees, managers, and relevant agencies, ensuring a compliant, consistent, and employee-centered experience
  • Ensure VSCO's people practices comply with federal and multi-state legal requirements — including registration, notices, required postings, and regulatory changes — proactively identifying risk and driving remediation across employees and contractors
  • Own VSCO's compensation processes including salary band reviews, compensation adjustments, and equity refreshes — partnering cross-functionally to ensure consistency and fairness
  • Act as a key contributor to cultural initiatives including company All Hands, in-person activities, swag programs, and other engagement efforts
  • Partner regularly with our DEI Committee to provide operational support and guidance for company-wide programs
  • Partner with Marketing to maintain and evolve our employer branding program

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in a People Operations, HR Generalist, or similar role with demonstrated ownership of core HR functions
  • Proven experience managing payroll end-to-end, including vendor management, reconciliation, and close partnership with Accounting/Finance
  • Hands-on experience managing EOR relationships, contractors, and a distributed workforce — across engagement types including 1099, EOR, and staffing agencies — including onboarding, offboarding, compliance, and ongoing relationship management
  • Experience administering benefits programs, including invoice reconciliation, open enrollment, and carrier management
  • Experience managing LOAs (FMLA, state leave, medical, parental) across multiple jurisdictions
  • Demonstrated experience applying federal and multi-state employment law knowledge and driving compliance work independently
  • Working knowledge of modern compensation best practices, including salary benchmarking and equity management
  • Experience managing and optimizing HR systems (HRIS, payroll platforms, or similar), including configuration, data integrity, and user support
  • Experience turning data from multiple systems into clear insights and recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to develop employee experience programs that enhance engagement and retention
  • Willingness and ability to leverage Gen AI tools to improve people processes, automate repetitive work, and free up capacity for higher-impact work
  • High degree of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive employee information, compensation data, and organizational matters

Nice to Haves

  • Experience as an HRBP or in a strategic HR partnership capacity — candidates with this background will be strongly considered
  • Demonstrated use of Gen AI tools to improve or automate people processes
  • Experience supporting talent operations or recruiting (sourcing, coordination, or programs)
  • Experience with Paylocity and/or Sapling
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent certification
