About The Position 

The Senior Nuclear Technical Instructor develops, administers and maintains training programs to support the overall Qualification Programs established at Callaway Energy Center (CEC) and maintains full accreditation for the CEC for their specific discipline, ensuring that the CEC is in full compliance with the requirements for accredited programs under the National Academy for Nuclear Training.  Instructors maximize student learning by providing quality training to maintain and improve worker knowledge and skills and improve plant performance. 

 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Administer formal classroom training to include: 

  • Classroom, Laboratory/Simulator instruction 

  • Preparation, administration, and grading of examinations 

  • Evaluation of trainee performance 

  • Scheduling and coordinating training course presentations with appropriate department personnel 

  • Support implementation of an effective and efficient Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) that meets or exceeds industry standards and is institutionalized into plant procedures and processes.   

  • Support subject matter experts and vendors providing on-site and off-site training within the appropriate discipline area. 

  • Analyze Condition Reports and industry trends and recommend areas of weakness for Operating Experience applicability into lesson plans.   

  • Ensure Callaway Energy Center is current on industry practices and Operating Experience. 

  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all training conducted in accordance with applicable procedures and criteria. 

  • Actively participate in training programs to maintain individual qualifications.  

  • Participate in in-plant activities and field time to maintain required licenses, certifications, and technical proficiency. 

  • Provide refueling outage support for preparations, in-processing training, and/or filling assigned outage position. 

  • Assume Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties in accordance with Callaway Energy Center Radiological Emergency Response Plan (RERP) including responding to assigned ERO facilities within the required RERP response time. 

 

Technical Level 

  • Knowledge  Works independently as an experienced instructor. In-depth practical knowledge in the technical area. 

  • Job Complexity  Creates lesson materials, objectives, and presentations.  Experienced using Vision Assists with self-assessments and evaluations of training programs. 

  • Supervision  Generally operates independently, with minimal feedback and review of ongoing work and only general instruction on training and assignments. 

  • Leadership  Provides peer reviews and feedback, leads and has accountability for projects. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is required.  Five (5) or more years of relevant professional or journey level experience required (relevant experience includes experience in engineering, experience working in the area of instructional focus, e.g. radiation protection or chemistry or experience as a technical instructor in the relevant area).
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, a relevant Associate's Degree and 2 additional years (7 total) or a High School Diploma and 4 additional years (9 total) of the aforementioned types of experiences may be considered.
  • Previous training instructor experience in a National Academy for Nuclear Training accredited program preferred. 

 

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate: 

 Excellent verbal and written communications skills, ability to supervise and motivate personnel, dependability and good human relations characteristics required.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office software preferred.  Basic understanding of Computer Based Training preferred.  Basic knowledge of Learning Management Systems preferred.  Qualified candidates are required to establish and maintain their permanent residence within sixty highway miles of the Callaway Energy Center.  Security screening required for Callaway Energy Center access.  

 

Working Conditions 

The Senior Nuclear Instructor works a standard day shift in an office/plant environment. Callouts and working rotating or Outage schedules may be required to support plant operations.

Compensation Range:

$105,100.00 - $162,900.00

At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
