Responsible to identify, assess, manage, monitor and report non-financial risks and develop or implement risk management strategies to mitigate or manage identified risks.
YOUR CHALLENGE
Key Accountabilities
Stakeholder Management
- Act as a trusted adviser to local Risk Owners and business management, providing practical proportionate, and solutions‑focused guidance on non‑financial risk management and control design.
- Proactively champion the internal client agenda, building effective and credible working relationships across the Guernsey Branch while mentoring others to enhance longer‑term stakeholder relationships.
- Maintain strong, constructive relationships with UK and Group Risk functions, Compliance, Audit, and other key stakeholders influencing timelines, expectations, and outcomes within own remit.
- Actively participate in functional and management meetings, calls, and initiatives with Head Office and other Julius Baer locations professionally and consistently with the JB brand and values.
Non-Financial Risk Management
- Support the design, implementation, and ongoing operation of the Guernsey Branch Non‑Financial Risk Management Framework, ensuring consistency with Group standards and GFSC regulatory expectations.
- Maintain the Guernsey Branch Risk Management Framework, including the Local Risk Appetite and Tolerance Statement, in line with local regulatory requirements, business strategy, and Group guidance and perform an annual review of these frameworks. This includes defining KRIs with Risk Owners and proposing tolerance levels to be approved by the BMB.
- Assist in the identification, assessment, and monitoring of non‑financial risks across the Branch, including Financial Crime Risks, Market Conduct, Business Conduct, Fraud, Tax, Technology, Info Sec, People, Model Risk, Business Continuity, Processing and Settlement, Legal and Regulatory, Governance and Third Party Risk.
- Coordinate and support the annual Risk and Control Self‑Assessment (RCSA) process for the Guernsey Branch, including:
- Risk and control identification and assessment
- Annual Design Effectiveness and Operational Effectiveness testing
- Validate proposed remedial actions and drive timely completion by working with action owners to close open tasks
- Own and maintain the Key Control Plan and Global Minimum Controls (GMCs) for Guernsey, including:
- Ensure that GMCs are assessed, implemented, or granted exceptions and deviations within assigned task deadlines. This includes adapting local controls to meet local regulatory requirements and/or standards, and obtaining the necessary approvals from Group RTOs where deviations are required.
- Monitoring timely execution of local controls
- Assessing control performance and effectiveness
- Reporting outcomes to Branch Management and Group stakeholders
- Complete and/or assign key controls where required and provide oversight of control execution by the business.
- Manage the preparation of risk materials for local governance forums, including:
- Branch Risk & Conduct Committee
- Operations Committee
- Other local management or risk forums as required
- Maintain logs of operational risk events, near‑misses, losses, and control failures in accordance with Branch and Group standards.
- Drive the investigation, escalation, root cause analysis and remediation of Operational Incidents and Errors.
- Monitor and report operational risk metrics, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), and emerging risk themes relevant to the Guernsey Branch.
- Track and follow up on audit findings, regulatory observations, and Self‑Identified Risk Items (SIRIs), ensuring timely closure.
- Oversee and challenge the implementation of the local Third-Party Risk Management framework, ensuring proper handling of the entire Third Party Service Arrangement Lifecycle. Apply sound judgement by integrating and synthesising information from different sources, assessing risk implications, and escalating matters appropriately while seeking guidance on the most complex issues where required.
People Management
- Provide day‑to‑day oversight, coaching, and development support to any Risk staff under your supervision.
- Set clear objectives, manage performance, and support the development of technical risk management skills and professional judgement.
- Ensure appropriate training, knowledge transfer, and exposure to Guernsey‑specific regulatory and risk topics.
- Promote independence, integrity, collaboration, and accountability within the team.
- Ensure completion of mandatory training, annual attestations, and compliance with internal policies and standards.
Culture, Values & Risk Awareness
- Promote a strong risk culture within the Guernsey Branch, encouraging proactive risk identification, transparent escalation, and continuous improvement.
- Act as a role model for ethical behaviour, professionalism, and adherence to the firm’s values and policies.
- Support and contribute to Branch‑wide training and awareness initiatives related to non‑financial risk, internal controls, and conduct.

- Experience in designing and implementing controls, policies & procedures.
- Strong stakeholder management experience.
- Ability to utilise critical thinking skills to analyse business activities to identify relevant risks and issues.
- Suitable professional qualification(s).
- Commercial mindset.
- Whilst not essential, relevant private banking experience is desirable.
