Lantern is seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Security Engineer.  The Senior Network Security Engineer will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the network infrastructure of our customers and internal infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and security of network systems, as well as providing technical leadership to the network engineering team. This role requires deep expertise in IT platforms and networking technologies, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

Location:

 Remote: United States or Canada

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, maintain and manage network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
    • Architect and deploy network security solutions across on-prem and cloud environments (Azure + hybrid).
    • Configure and manage Fortinet technologies: FortiGate firewalls, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, FortiClient EMS, and SD-WAN
  • Firewall & VPN Management
    • Maintain firewall rule sets, NAT policies, IPS/IDS, and VPN configurations (IPSec/SSL).
    • Optimize performance and security posture through audits and hardening.
  • Azure Security Engineering
    • Implement Azure network security controls: NSGs, Azure Firewall, VPN Gateways, Conditional Access, and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
    • Ensure compliance with Microsoft Cloud Security Benchmark and regulatory frameworks
  • Monitor network traffic and security, implement appropriate security measures, and respond to security incidents.
  • Administer servers, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of operating systems and applications.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of network and systems components.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including network diagrams, system configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry best practices to continuously improve network and system infrastructure.
  • Understand data schema/API standards, automation, and messaging systems
  • Bring a metric-driven mindset to our rules, signals (IOCs), and alerts
  • Other duties as assigned, we are one family and help each other.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years in network/security engineering
  • 5+ years with Fortinet solutions and Azure networking/security
  • Experience with an NDR solution (Extrahop, Darktrace)
  • Experience managing cloud security services such as FortiCloud Suite
  • 5+ years’ direct experience in an IT related field providing support and systems engineering.
  • 5+ years’ experience with scripting tools (Curl, Python, Glue, PowerShell) and automation
  • 5+ years’ experience collaborating with technical team members, business analysts, and project/program managers to ensure a quality solution is delivered
  • Deep knowledge of network application and mobility security, security systems design, policy development, compliance, and incident response
  • Strong knowledge of DNS protocols, security, and Fortinet Suite Management.

Strong Candidates Will:

  • Experience in healthcare or regulated industries.
  • Certifications such as Network +, CCNP, Fortinet NSE, Azure (AZ-500).
  • Experience with Sigma rules, YARA, and threat modeling.
  • Hands-on technical contributor with demonstrated ability to execute and deliver engineering projects impacting security posture in complex and fast-changing environments.
  • Experience designing, coding, and deploying security solutions, comfortable with Python and at least one of: Java, Go, C++, JavaScript, Rust, SQL, or TypeScript.
  • Practical skills with security tools and scripting: you design, build, and maintain solutions, not just click in a UI.
  • Hands-on experience managing and monitoring Content Delivery Network) CDN or cloud-based edge solutions.
  • Expertise documenting and diagram solutions and infrastructure
  • Excellent ability to document and diagram solutions and infrastructure
  • Proven ability to analyze and defend modern cloud and on-premises environments: you know how to break and fix systems, leveraging tools like CloudTrail, Security Hub, etc.
  • Experience with software including Fortinet, Jira, Confluence, Azure, and Microsoft O365.
  • Thrives in a team environment, supporting and mentoring peers with your engineering experience, and eager to tackle the next technical challenge.
