We are seeking an experienced Senior .NET API engineer to join our Technology team.

About the role

Want to design APIs that sit at the heart of how our commercial customers shop, pay and get served – both online and in-store? This Senior .NET API Engineer role is a chance to work on real enterprise complexity, with modern tech, in a team that has A million ways to make an impact and backs you all the way.

You’ll join a dedicated integration squad that’s rebuilding how commercial customers are managed, authenticated and serviced across our digital and in-store channels. From account lifecycle and card provisioning through to identity verification and real-time data flows between legacy platforms and cloud-native APIs, you’ll be working on systems that our team members and customers rely on every day.

If you enjoy building scalable .NET 8 APIs in Azure, solving knotty integration problems and being part of a cross-functional delivery team, this role offers both immediate impact and long-term runway – Inspiring you to give it a red hot go.

What’s involved

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Shape and build RESTful microservices and integration APIs in C# and ASP.NET Core that connect multiple enterprise systems.
  • Help re-architect how commercial customer accounts, cards and identities are managed and authenticated across channels.
  • Work with Azure Cosmos DB, Oracle and event-driven messaging patterns (including CQRS) to keep data in sync in real time.
  • Design clear API contracts using OpenAPI, making life easier for downstream consumers and gateway configuration.
  • Improve performance, reliability and security of APIs that sit in the middle of a large integration landscape.
  • Strengthen quality through thoughtful automated testing, observability, health checks and distributed tracing.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, QAs, BAs and a delivery lead in a supportive, cross-functional squad.
  • Contribute to future work across payment orchestration, loyalty integration, identity uplift and ongoing BAU support.

About You

You’re a seasoned .NET engineer who enjoys owning services end-to-end and thinking about the bigger picture of how systems fit together. You’re comfortable working in complex environments with multiple upstream and downstream dependencies and you like making things simpler, more reliable and easier to change.

You are someone who enjoys collaborating with product, business analysis and QA teams to transform requirements into clean, well-structured APIs. You thrive in a modern, cloud-first environment and are eager to share ideas on architecture and design patterns. You are comfortable mentoring colleagues, providing and receiving feedback and helping to raise engineering standards across the team. You value a practical, supportive culture where everyone pitches in and works together to achieve results.

What you’ll need

We know no one ticks every box, so treat this as a guide, not a checklist. Experience in most of the following will set you up for success:

  • 5+ years' experience in ASP.NET Core and RESTful API design.
  • Background in building integration APIs or microservices in complex, enterprise environments.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL data stores (e.g. Azure Cosmos DB, Oracle or similar).
  • Exposure to CQRS, messaging and event-driven patterns.
  • Familiarity with Azure and containerised deployments, plus CI/CD pipelines.
  • Comfort with automated testing (unit, integration, end-to-end) and observability practices.
  • Understanding of OAuth and scope/role-based authorisation in API contexts.
