Who we are
About BBPOS
BBPOS is one of the world leaders in payment devices and the inventors of mPOS technology. BBPOS products are used by large retailers and leading online platforms across multiple industries. BBPOS is engaged in the business of manufacturing and supplying mobile and smart point-of-sale hardware, and the underlying software and infrastructure to deploy, manage, and monitor those devices. BBPOS is now part of Stripe’s Terminal business since the acquisition in March 2022.
About the team
Post acquisition, the BBPOS team is now an extension of the Stripe Terminal team. Stripe Terminal helps Stripe users extend their online presence into the physical world. The Terminal team’s mission is to make it as easy for businesses to accept in-person payments as the Stripe API has done for online payments. With Terminal, businesses can unlock in-person payments use cases that are right for their business model—whether it’s creating a flagship retail experience, extending their website to a pop-up store, or enabling a mobile point-of-sale at their next event.
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities.
We are looking for a mechanical Supplier Quality Engineer who will be in charge of the Mechanical process, metrology, quality control and auditing, reliability test, cosmetic standards, yield improvement and failure analysis from new product introduction through mass production.
What you’ll do
To drive end-to-end mechanical quality excellence across the supply chain, ensuring that mechanical components (enclosures and mechanisms) meet uncompromising standards for fit, finish, and functionality.
Key Responsibilities
New Product Introduction (NPI) & Development
- DFX Participation: Collaborate with Product Design (PD) to conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews.
- Tolerance Analysis: Validate that supplier processes can achieve the critical-to-quality (CTQ) dimensions, especially for complex assemblies like thermal printer doors or EMV card slots
- Drive Early Supplier Involvement (ESI) to ensure manufacturing constraints are addressed during the concept phase, preventing costly re-tooling later.
Supplier Process Control & Auditing
- Process Capability: Ensure suppliers maintain a Cpk \ge 1.33 for all critical dimensions.
- QCP Development: Review and approve Supplier Quality Control Plans (QCP) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- On-site Audits: Conduct regular technical audits of manufacturing lines to ensure compliance with SOPs and "Gold Surface" cosmetic standards.
Cosmetic & Surface Finish Standards
- Limit Samples: Define and align on "Limit Samples" for surface finishes (anodizing, painting, texture) to minimize subjectivity in visual inspections.
- Color Science: Utilize spectrophotometers and light boxes to ensure color consistency across different batches and materials.
Failure Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Root Cause Analysis: Lead 8D or 5-Why investigations for mechanical failures found during assembly or field returns (e.g., stress cracks, coating peel-off, or hinge fatigue).
- Yield Improvement: Monitor supplier scrap rates and implement corrective actions to drive "zero-defect" manufacturing.
Metrology & Validation
- Gage R&R: Verify that supplier measurement systems (CMM, OMM, or custom jigs) are accurate and repeatable.
- Reliability Testing: Ensure components pass environmental and mechanical stress tests (drop tests, salt spray, and high-cycle button actuation).
- Manage First Article Inspection (FAI) and correlation studies between supplier and OQC (Outgoing Quality Control) to ensure measurement alignment.
Who you are
We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement. You have a 'Quality First' mindset and the backbone to stop a production line if standards are not met, balanced with the creativity to find a path forward.
Minimum requirements
- 5+ years Supply Chain, Quality and/or Technical experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Materials Science bachelor degree.
- Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and its application
- Demonstrated project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent english communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated leadership to influence and drive change within a highly matrixed organisation.
- Working knowledge of Quality systems and processes.
- Proficiency in statistical software (Minitab, JMP) and 3D CAD viewing tools
- Aesthetic Sensitivity: Explicitly mention an "eye for detail." In the world of iPhone-like hardware, a 0.1mm gap or a slightly off-center logo is a failure.
- Travel (up to 80%) to suppliers and other manufacturing locations domestically as needed.
- Fluent in English and Chinese
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with and knowledge of Mechanical mold, stamping and their manufacturing processes.
- Strong background in applying statistical tools for product and process development and control (i.e. Gage R&R, Process Capability, Control Plans, SPC, Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and Design of Experiments (DOE)).
- Skilled and experienced with reading and understanding engineering drawings, dimensions, and tolerances. Basic understanding of GD&T.
- Experienced with PPAP and problem solving tools and techniques (SCAR, 8-D, 5 Whys, 7 Ways, Fishbone, Pareto, and Six Sigma).
- Demonstrated ability to simplify complex information and prepare concise executive summaries.
- Direct experience managing high-end cosmetic finishes (Anodizing, PVD coating, or IMD/IML).
- Able to use AI to improve work efficiency and productivity.
