Business Banking Risk Management provides the Business Banking teams with specialist risk services and advice. Business Banking is one of the three client facing business groups within the Commonwealth Bank and provides support to the Group’s Corporate, Agricultural, Business, Property, and Commsec clients. The Commercial Banking and Major Client Group Risk team forms part of Business Banking Risk Management. The team provides risk advice and decisioning of transactions to the Commercial Banking and Major Client Group segments.


Do work that matters

Your role as the Senior Manager Risk will involve the management of a team dedicated to the provision of all aspects of credit services including advice and credit structuring, assessing and decisioning complex commercial and corporate transactions for existing and new to bank clients within delegated approval authorities. The role will also require proactive engagement with senior stakeholders across both Business and Risk segments. Other aspects of the role will include credit monitoring and oversight, leading select strategic initiatives undertaken within Business Banking and Major Client Group Risk, and promoting a prudent risk culture through coaching and mentoring.


Most specifically your task will include;

  • Management and leadership of a team of Risk Executives based in South Australia
  • Undertaking sound assessment and analysis of complex new to bank transactions in line with the Bank’s stated risk appetite. This will involve applying a personal delegation for decisioning credits and where required, presenting to Credit and Business committees on transactions;
  • Analysis of industry changes which might impact risk outcomes and being able to recognise and recommend appropriate changes to structuring of proposals to counteract these changes;
  • Meet with key external clients and prospects to develop a thorough understanding of their business, while maintaining the requirement of independent risk assessment;
  • Develop and maintain a high performance team culture and actively coach deal team members and colleagues in credit risk management
  • Act as a role model by consistently displaying leadership behaviours, working in a collaborative manner and driving a strong performance culture

  • Experience in a senior risk position, including exercising a meaningful delegation in a major financial institution
  • A strong customer focus and management capabilities when liaising with both internal and external stakeholders
  • High level specialised industry knowledge and experience in risk management at the corporate or institutional level
  • The ability to provide sound, consistent risk decisions with a deep understanding of complex financial and corporate structures, risks and mitigants and cashflow lending principles
  • Thorough understanding of the concepts of counterparty and product risk and the regulatory environment
  • Experience in leading and managing a team
