Mō te tūranga | About the Role
A trusted advisor in operational risk management and compliance for infrastructure services and architecture practices (including data centers, networks, mainframes), supporting squads and Service Groups to manage risk, foster a risk-aware culture, and drive continuous improvement in technology risk practices.
The role is pivotal in ensuring Westpac’s infrastructure remains resilient, secure, and compliant, directly impacting operational continuity and risk mitigation.
- Provide expert technical and risk advisory on infrastructure and architecture matters (data centres, networks, mainframes) within Service Groups.
- Respond promptly to squad requests for risk guidance on architecture and infrastructure changes, upgrades, and resilience measures.
- Engage proactively with squads to maintain visibility of technical backlogs, capacity challenges, and risk implications.
- Triage and escalate complex infrastructure and architecture risk issues to the Risk Lead.
- Support the Risk Lead in fostering a risk-aware culture and lead team discussions on technology risk trends and control improvements.
- Allocate tasks and resources for critical infrastructure risk assessments and compliance activities as required.
- Conduct risk assessments of prioritised initiatives, architecture and infrastructure backlog items, ensuring robust change management and prioritisation of risk management deadlines.
- Facilitate creation and maintenance of Risk & Control Matrices for infrastructure and architecture initiatives.
- Assess readiness and approve implementation of infrastructure and architecture changes from a risk perspective, ensuring accurate risk and control status in systems like JUNO.
- Coordinate Service Group deliverables with a focus on business continuity, supplier governance, and risk profiles for core platforms.
- Ensure technology incidents impacting infrastructure or architecture are managed and resolved promptly in line with policy.
- Support peer reviews and quality assurance to maintain consistency in risk practices.
- Champion risk mitigation strategies during Quarterly Planning and Prioritisation (QPP).
- Ensure engagement of subject matter experts in architecture practices and infrastructure services, network security, and vendor risk.
- Role model commitment to technical and risk capability development, fostering continuous learning.
- Manage competing priorities in high-pressure environments, ensuring risk considerations remain front of mind.
- Empower colleagues and promote collaboration across teams.
- Lead and support training on infrastructure and architecture risk topics.
- Contribute beyond portfolio boundaries to achieve enterprise-wide risk and technology objectives.

- Proven experience in operational risk and compliance management within complex infrastructure and architecture environments (data centres, networks, mainframes).
- Strong ability to engage and influence technical and business stakeholders.
- Deep proficiency in technology risk domains relevant to architecture, infrastructure resilience, network security, and mainframe operations.
- Ability to deliver high-quality presentations and reporting, leveraging tools such as PowerPoint and data visualisation platforms.
- Highly developed analytical skills.
- Builds effective long-term relationships and assimilates information quickly.
- Self-leader, manages to high quality and time.
- Driven to deliver, showing determination, resourcefulness, and a sense of purpose.
- Hands-on technical experience in infrastructure technologies (network architecture, hosting platforms, mainframe systems) and architecture practices.
