The Professional Practice Office (PPO) supports the firm's assurance practice and acts as a single point of contact between engagement teams and national, expert-level resources in dealing with complex accounting, auditing, and risk management matters. Members of the PPO each have technical expertise in certain topical areas of accounting and auditing, as well as in one or two focus industries. Responsibilities of this role include participating in engagement-specific quality control roles, supporting the National Office of Risk Management during internal and external inspections, as well as contributing to thought leadership, learning and professional development, and other firm audit quality initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Subject matter expert or specialist in variety of topical areas and/or industry-specific matters

  • Participates in engagement-specific quality control roles (e.g. EQR-assist, FSR, pre and post issuance reviews)

  • Provides observations and recommendations from live client service situations to others in NPSG and audit leadership to effect quality enhancements and risk mitigation efforts

  • Actively participates in PPO/SME and NPSG meetings and initiatives to continuously improve the audit practice

  • Applies thorough understanding of the organization’s key business processes and controls to effectively anticipate and address the longer-term implications of decisions/actions

  • Monitors and provides counsel regarding emerging accounting and auditing issues

  • Involved in professional organizations aligned with their subject matter or industry expertise, if applicable

  • Develops and/or facilitates internal training on various technical topics

  • Consults with engagement teams, members of the Professional Practice Office (PPO), Technical Industry liaisons, and Audit Incident Response, as requested (or required by firm policy), on complex accounting, auditing, independence, and risk management matters

  • When applicable, engages with external stakeholders including clients and their professionals to facilitate resolution of issues and demonstrate firm competence and responsiveness

  • Works closely with the National Office of Risk Management on internal and external inspections, including written responses and remediation oversight as applicable

  • Participates as a resource to Audit Incident Response, and the General Counsel’s Office, as requested, in the performance and conduct of investigations

  • Serves as a mentor to individuals in the audit practice exercising reasoned judgment and advising on handling difficult situations encountered during the audit process

  • Fosters a positive and proactive work environment, emphasizing respect for individuals, high standards of quality, innovation and teamwork

  • Facilitates the ongoing learning, well-being, professional satisfaction and development of staff through training, work assignments, increased responsibility/autonomy and mentoring

  • Occasional business travel may be required for participation with professional organizations, training facilitation, continuing professional education,  client service support, inspection support, and various projects and work streams of the PPO and audit practice

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (or equivalent)

  • Active CPA license in good standing in principal place of business

  • A minimum of 9 years’ experience in a national assurance role within a public accounting firm

  • Strong working knowledge of CAS, IFRS and ASPE

  • Exceptional client service attitude, possessing strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with all levels and taking a proactive approach in working with employees

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely, to diverse audiences across the firm and stakeholders

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills to manage multiple and/ or complex projects

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, taking ownership of results

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $99,000 - $168,500

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
