What you’ll be doing
Global Operational Risk Management (GORM) provides oversight of CIBC’s operational risk exposures through the Operational Risk Management and Control Frameworks, including risks related to: Business Interruption, Data, Financial Reporting, Information Security, Legal, Physical Security, People, Privacy, Product, Project, Regulatory Compliance, Third Parties, Technology, Theft, Fraud, and Process and Execution. The Senior Manager, Operational Risk Management reports to the Senior Director, Operational Risk Management and provides independent challenge and proactive oversight and assessment of operational risk issues within the assigned lines of business. As second line of defense, you are responsible for all aspects of operational risk management and control framework requirements including the identification, measurement, management, monitoring and control of operational risk.
In this capacity, the Senior Manager will build partnership with the Retail, Commercial Wealth Management and Capital Markets LOBs within CAO as well as Contact Centres to ensure a consistent and collaborative approach to managing risk.

How you’ll succeed
Independent Challenge/Risk Management – As an individual contributor, you will leverage a risk-based approach to review operational incidents, change initiatives, deficiencies and controls and risk & control self-assessments and perform effective challenge. As a second line of defense for the management of operational risk, you will perform independent assessment of business line activities using operational tools and processes.
Collaboration – You will leverage your strong communication, interpersonal skills and teamwork to build and sustain strong internal relationships where you are viewed as a valued partner that offers sound guidance and demonstrates a deep understanding of their environment and context.
Communicate Effectively – You demonstrate clarity of thought in both written and verbal communications. You will facilitate productive risk discussions and outcomes and will develop and deliver strong reporting content, presentations and assessment summaries on an ongoing basis for senior audiences and risk committees.
Proactive oversight and assessment – You will review operational practices, risk assessments, controls, deficiencies and other relevant information to form an independent view of operational risks. You will identify material and emerging risks through proactive risk reviews and monitoring of Key Risk Indicators and External Events. You will effectively communicate areas or concern to ensure appropriate risk mitigation actions are taken.
Facilitate Innovation – Support change and the maintenance of effective Operational Risk programs that allows CIBC to fulfill its purpose-driven mission. This will include new ideas that supports CIBC’s goal of an effective, efficient and radically simple Operational Risk and Control program.
Who you are
You can demonstrate experience in operational risk or have and have a broad understanding across back-office operations within financial services.
It’s an asset if you possess experience in operations roles, client experience, project delivery, process engineering, business analysis and/or comparable educational experience
