What you will do:

The Sr. Manager, Fleet Operations will lead a JCI fleet operations team of 15-20 employees in conjunction with a match-pair team in a 3rd party fleet management company (FMC) to execute business process workflows that deliver world class driver safety, industry best driver sentiment and best cost operations. This role oversees fleet operations in the U.S. and Canada with an expectation that the scope will expand to include Central and South America. This role has a high operating tempo that includes 24/7/365 field operations, constant planning and collaboration with the FMC and service center operations to support over 18,000 front line sales and service mechanic drivers. A typical day combines operations management, financial planning, technology implementation, communications and team influencing/leadership to ensure safe operations and strategic projects achieve on-time, on-budget, and on-quality targets. This role has significant interaction with IT and Data Analytics Functions to integrate and utilize advanced technologies such as AI, advanced telematics and GPS tracking systems, fleet management applications, and technician routing optimization software. The ideal candidate will have strong business acumen, high emotional intelligence, patience, team building and influencing skills and an indominable will to win.
 

How you will do it:

In partnership with the FMC, JCI Procurement, Safety, Legal, HR, IT, Sales and Service Functions, create and manage a $250 million annual operating budget. Execute JCI’s business operating system that includes Monthly Operating Reviews and daily KPI huddles and action plan reviews.  Lead organizational change and technology adoption. An additional responsibility is to foster a culture of collaboration, alignment, teamwork and positivism to create momentum and energy that optimizes team outputs.

Driver Safety

  • Plan and execute drive safety training. This includes onboarding training, mandatory DOT and other compliance training, monthly driver safety awareness courses and remedial training tied to the driver risk profile.
  • Manage the driver safety close loop process that correlated real time vehicle telematics, motor vehicle records (MVR) to create real time driver coaching events and progressive discipline documentation.
  • Enforce telematics transmissions to achieve and maintain 100% on the road transmission and data collection
  • Own the Motor Vehicle Injury KPI. Create and manage the action plan to achieve MVIR < .08 injuries per million miles

Driver Service & Sentiment

  • Manage Region Fleet Analysts (RFAs) to ensure they are responsive advocates for drivers in their region.
  • With the FMC, manage and improve open case cycle time. Ensure the FMC has capacity and process controls that achieve cycle time targets.
  • Micro-manage road assistance events and medical-ergonomic exceptions. Immediate response for stranded drivers and reasonable accommodation are strong levers for driver care and satisfaction.
  • Execute annual driver sentiment surveys, driver help desk satisfaction surveys, and office hours to measure overall driver satisfaction

Fleet Supply Chain Management

  • Execute annual supply planning with the FMC, upfit partners, and OEMs. Develop order quantities based on JCIs target operating model for standard model mix and vehicle options
  • Manage supply chain velocity with a focus on reducing dwell time at process nodes. This includes both forward and reverse supply chains. Achieve and maintain the fleet size at or below the target inventory level
  • Execute Advanced Purchase Programs (APP) to achieve vehicle collections and swaps without claw back
  • Maintain JCIs vehicle line up to minimize exceptions and supply chain complexity
  • With Procurement, create and execute Purchase Orders that meet OEM production windows and triggers for order bonuses

Fleet Budgeting & Cost Management

  • With the FMC, develop and maintain an annual operating budget. Execute monthly variance analysis and corrective actions. Develop and execute cost reduction projects as needed to improve productivity and eliminate waste
  • With the FMC, achieve annual cost out target of $10M per year over the FMC 4-year contract
  • Prepare reports and financial analysis that include cost to operate and maintain per vehicle and overall costs for non-decal vehicles, decal vehicles and Fixed and Variable Reimbursement (FAVR) program
  • Ability to create and present financial models

Technology and Systems

  • Implement and drive adoption of the FMCs fleet management technology
  • Connect telematics data, MVR data and JCI policy in real time to identify infractions and unsafe behavior to facilitate coaching, remedial training and progressive discipline documentation as necessary
  • Implement FAVR technology to include cell phone applications for mileage tracking and connections to Concur and JCI banks for mileage reimbursements. Partner with IT to ensure cyber security requirements are met and maintained
  • Introduce other technologies like AI agents that can optimize routing and generate predictive analytics

Data Quality and Integrity Management

  • Partner with HR to maintain create and use APIs and other data flows for new employees existing employee “ins and outs”. Develop and maintain an accurate driver database that facilitates payroll deduction for personal use collections, progressive discipline documentation, personal use mileage and imputed income calculation for income tax and medical-ergonomic exceptions
  • With the FMC, develop and maintain accurate vehicle inventory records and asset to driver matching. Data accuracy must be > 99% to facilitate communications, cost allocations and vehicle assignments/collections

Special Skills and Qualifications

  • This role requires a skill set that combines technical knowledge, leadership maturity, critical thinking and business acumen. The candidate must be adaptive and agile with an ability to execute in workflows, pivot to short fuse problem solving and action while improving business processes to achieve a long-term strategy
  • 15-18 years’ experience in public company function, staff or operational roles showing career progression over this timeframe. Global experience and leadership roles in supply chain, transportation management, logistics & warehousing, manufacturing and procurement are a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for stakeholder management and executive reporting
  • Quick decision-making capabilities and ability to manage emergency situations effectively

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $126,000-189,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will take into account individual, group, and corporate performance. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
