1. People leadership and management.
2. Provide technical accounting leadership to ensure Japan’s financials comply with USGAAP and JGAAP.
3. Improve internal control process in Japan including SOX compliance as needed.
4. Lead various financial controlling related projects/initiatives including M&A integration activities for optimization and enhancements of financial controlling.
This role is newly created for Japan finance organization to support rapidly growing as well as changing business and to accelerate value creation.
People leadership and management
· Manage and provide coaching for up to 20 finance & accounting staff.
Provide technical accounting leadership
· Oversee general accounting, rebate accounting, accounts payables, billing, tax and treasury.
· Monthly manual journal entries and balance sheet review and approval.
· Monthly, Quarterly and Annual closing as well as reporting to HQ in USGAAP.
· Monitor the activities of accounting standard, USGAAP and JGAAP and maintain the GAAP differences properly.
· Lead annual JGAAP reporting and preparation of tax filings not only national taxes but also local taxes.
· Technical leader of the rebate accounting, both vendor rebate, marketing development fund and customer rebate.
· Lead external, internal and tax audits.
· Treasury, financing and cash management in cooperation with the APJ treasury.
Improve internal control process in Japan
· Drive internal control and SOX compliance in country.
· Ensure solid control documentation is developed and maintained, and key process owners are educated about internal controls.
· Monitor finance & Accounting operations and identify potential reporting and control issues then proactively mitigate gaps.
Lead various financial controlling related projects/initiatives.
· Identify process and system enhancement opportunities for simplification and efficiencies.
· Enable new business initiatives and arrangements to ensure right accounting treatment, right accounting processes and adequate internal controls are in place.
· Enable adoption of relevant corporate policies, processes and systems initiatives in Japan. Update and coordinate feedback from local Japan teams, to ensure they are effectively passed on to Regional HQ or Corporate for consideration.
· Work closely with the Regional HQ finance and accounting team to clear technical matters and report quarterly updates.
· Support Finance Director to coordinate and prepare finance all-hands meeting as well as training for upskilling organization.
· Minimum 15 years experience in Finance & Accounting with at least 5 years experience in people leadership position.
· Understanding overall finance and accounting operations and having broader finance and accounting experience.
· USGAAP and JGAAP skills (USCPA and/or JCPA preferred).
· Proficient in SOX and internal control frameworks, and handling compliance issues.
· Strong knowledge of ERP system, accounting processes and Excel skills.
· Analytical and logical thinking skills with creative problem-solving ability.
· Good communication skills as a team leader and technical finance leader.
· The ability to work well with others across the organization understanding different background.
· Strong sense of ownership and responsibility as a finance professional.
· Resilience and self-learner/starter.
· Open-minded, proactive, hard-working and consistently delivering above expectations.
· Native Japanese and fluent business and financial English (written and verbal).
