Join athenahealth as a Senior Engineering Manager to lead innovation in test automation technology that supports high-quality software delivery across our R&D teams. This hybrid role is based in Chennai, India, empowering you to collaborate both onsite and remotely. You will report directly to the Engineering Director - Systems Design & Architecture, driving strategic direction and operational excellence in test automation platforms.

Team Summary:

At athenahealth, the Internal Developer Platform (IDP) team is dedicated to revolutionizing the developer experience by updating and expanding our technology stack and tooling. As a Senior Engineering Manager within IDP, you will helm the Test Automation Platform strategy, focusing on building resilient, scalable, and intelligent testing solutions that accelerate software delivery. Your leadership will help cultivate a culture of quality and innovation, providing the R&D organization with advanced capabilities for improved testing efficiency, reliability, and integration across development pipelines.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

· Lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable test automation frameworks including web UI and API testing tools (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, CodeseptJS, K6,BrowserStack, JUnit, PyTest, Postman, RestAssured).

· Integrate security testing methodologies aligned with industry best practices, including OWASP guidelines and penetration testing protocols.

· Promote the adoption and maintenance of contract testing frameworks (e.g., Pact) within the testing ecosystem.

· Collaborate cross-functionally to optimize CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code practices (Terraform, CloudFormation) for seamless deployment and testing workflows.

· Drive performance testing initiatives using tools such as JMeter to ensure application scalability and reliability.

· Guide software engineering teams in leveraging cloud-native technologies and AI-driven testing tools (e.g., Testim, Mabl, Applitools) to innovate QA automation.

· Manage and mentor a team of engineers, fostering professional growth and high performance aligned with business objectives.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

· Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practice dissemination across engineering and QA teams.

· Drive continuous improvement initiatives for automation tools and processes in collaboration with product and operations teams.

· Evaluate emerging testing technologies and recommend their adoption to enhance test coverage and efficiency.

· Support compliance and audit efforts related to software quality and security standards.

· Participate in technical hiring to build a diverse and skilled engineering team.

· Represent engineering in program and project planning meetings to align technical strategies with organizational goals.

· Contribute to documentation and training materials to support platform users and stakeholders.

Expected Education & Experience:

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

· Proven experience with test automation frameworks such as K6, CodeseptJS, Selenium, Cypress, JUnit, PyTest.

· Demonstrated expertise with API testing tools including Postman and RestAssured.

· Experience with performance testing tools like K6, JMeter and Loadrunner.

· Knowledge of security testing practices, including OWASP standards and penetration testing.

· Familiarity with contract testing frameworks such as Pact.

· Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code with Terraform or CloudFormation, and cloud-native technologies.

· Proficiency in programming languages such as Java and Python, or similar.

· Exposure to AI-based testing platforms and machine learning-driven QA solutions is highly desirable.

· Effective leadership and team management skills in a technical environment.
