ROLE SUMMARY

The Digital Technology and AI organization's mission is to innovate, build, standardize, and scale breakthrough AI/GenAI solutions, products, and platforms that enable Pfizer to connect digitally with all our customers. 

 

We are seeking a Senior Manager, DevOps Engineer who will be responsible for supporting a portfolio of AI/ML platforms and services. You will play a critical role in defining and implementing DevOps best practices, building robust CI/CD pipelines, and ensuring the security, reliability, and scalability of our AI infrastructure. Your expertise will help us accelerate the delivery of AI-powered solutions while maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence. 

 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES  

The Senior DevOps Engineer's responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

Infrastructure & Cloud Operations:

  • Design, deploy, and manage AWS cloud infrastructure for AI/ML applications using Infrastructure as Code 

  • Architect and maintain highly available, fault-tolerant systems using AWS services (ECS Fargate, Lambda, Step Functions, S3, DynamoDB, ECR, etc.) 

  • Implement auto-scaling strategies and optimize resource utilization for cost efficiency 

  • Lead lifecycle management activities including upgrades, patches, capacity planning, and infrastructure retirement 

  • Manage multi-environment deployments (dev, prod) with appropriate isolation and controls 

CI/CD & Automation: 

  • Build and maintain sophisticated CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions for containerized microservices 

  • Automate deployment processes for 50+ microservices across multiple environments 

  • Implement GitOps practices and promote infrastructure/configuration as code 

  • Develop automation scripts for operational tasks and deployment workflows 

  • Manage Docker container builds and ECR repository lifecycle 

 

Security & Compliance: 

  • Integrate security practices throughout the CI/CD pipeline (shift-left security) 

  • Implement automated security scanning 

  • Manage secrets and credentials using AWS Secrets Manager and secure CI/CD practices 

  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security policies, tagging standards, and industry regulations 

  • Monitor and respond to security incidents and vulnerabilities in a timely manner 

  • Conduct security reviews of infrastructure and application architectures 

Monitoring & Reliability: 

  • Implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting using Grafana, Dynatrace, and CloudWatch 

  • Establish SLIs, SLOs for critical services 

  • Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, and post-mortem analysis to identify root causes 

  • Drive continuous improvement through metrics-driven insights and capacity planning 

  • Optimize system performance through profiling, benchmarking, and tuning 

Collaboration & Leadership: 

  • Work closely with AI/ML development teams to understand requirements and optimize deployment strategies 

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship on DevOps/MLOps best practices 

  • Document infrastructure, runbooks, standard operating procedures, and architectural decisions 

  • Contribute to technical design reviews and architectural decision-making 

  • Foster a culture of automation, reliability, and continuous improvement 

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS  

  • BSc degree in Computer Science or Engineering is required. MSc is preferred. 

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience deploying and managing enterprise software solutions in AWS or other cloud environments 

  • Proven experience building and maintaining production-grade CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar) 

  • Extensive AWS expertise with services including: 

  • Compute: ECS Fargate, Lambda, EC2, EKS 

  • Storage: S3, DynamoDB 

  • Container: ECR 

  • Security: IAM, Secrets Manager, KMS 

  • Deep expertise with Infrastructure as Code using CloudFormation and/or Terraform 

  • Production experience with Docker containerization and orchestration 

  • Strong proficiency with Git version control and branching strategies 

  • Scripting & Programming: Python (required), Bash, strong understanding of software development lifecycle 

  • Monitoring & Observability: Hands-on experience with Grafana, Dynatrace, CloudWatch, or similar tools 

  • Security Tools: Experience with SonarQube, Snyk, or similar security scanning tools 

  • Configuration Management: Experience with automated configuration management approaches 

  • Performance Optimization: Proven ability in performance testing, profiling, and optimization 

  • Demonstrated ability to own complex systems end-to-end and manage production deployments 

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with systematic problem-solving approach
