See Yourself in the Team

At CommBank, our Risk Management function enables the Group to take well‑considered risk to support customers, communities and the broader economy. We do this by designing and embedding strong risk frameworks that support sustainable growth while operating within a Board‑approved risk appetite.

The Credit Strategy & Analytics function plays a pivotal role in shaping how we assess, manage and respond to credit risk across Business Banking, particularly in an environment of ongoing regulatory change, economic volatility and evolving customer needs.

The Business Bank Credit Strategy & Analytics team partners closely with Line 1 Risk to design, monitor and evolve credit risk strategies and policies for Business Banking products. We are a high‑impact, intellectually curious team focused on using data, analytics and commercial judgement to simplify credit decisioning, strengthen risk outcomes and support the business to lend responsibly.

Your Impact and Contribution

As a Senior Manager, Credit Strategy & Analytics, you will play a key leadership role in shaping credit risk strategies and providing trusted advice to Line 1, while maintaining an independent risk mindset. You will be expected to use data to inform decisions, challenge constructively, and navigate complexity in an ever‑changing macro‑economic and regulatory landscape.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Lead the development, review and ongoing optimisation of credit risk strategies and policies for Business Banking portfolios, ensuring alignment to the Group’s risk appetite and regulatory obligations.

  • Use data, analytics and insight to assess portfolio performance, emerging risks and external economic trends, translating these into clear, pragmatic risk recommendations.

  • Act as a senior risk partner to Line 1, supporting informed decision‑making while providing effective challenge where required.

  • Provide subject matter expertise across credit risk initiatives, including policy design, strategic lending changes, assurance activities and portfolio reviews.

  • Take a leading role in assurance and deep‑dive reviews, demonstrating strong judgement, intellectual curiosity and the ability to identify root causes and practical solutions.

  • Communicate complex risk concepts clearly and persuasively to senior stakeholders, using data storytelling to influence outcomes.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships across Business Bank Risk, Group Risk and the wider business, fostering a collaborative and outcome‑focused culture.

  • Coach and mentor team members, contributing to capability uplift across credit strategy, analytics and risk thinking.

Your Skills and Experience

You will bring strong experience in Credit Risk, Credit Strategy or Credit Risk Analytics within banking or financial services, alongside advanced analytics and data‑driven decision‑making skills. In addition, we’re interested in candidates who have:

  • The ability to use data and analytics to inform risk strategy, combined with sound commercial and risk judgement.

  • Experience partnering with Line 1, and confidence operating in a role that requires both support and constructive challenge.

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to convey complex insights to senior stakeholders in a clear and compelling way.

  • Experience working with large data sets and data platforms (e.g. Teradata, Hive, Spark or equivalent).

  • A strong understanding of, or willingness to rapidly build knowledge in, areas such as the Risk Appetite Statement, APRA and ASIC regulatory requirements, Basel principles, and broader community expectations (including the Banking Code of Practice).

  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and change, with the ability to respond to shifting economic, regulatory and portfolio conditions.

  • A proactive, curious mindset, with a willingness to challenge existing approaches and continuously improve credit risk outcomes.

What's in it for you?

  • Play a meaningful role in shaping credit outcomes for Australian businesses.

  • Work in a team that values curiosity, data‑driven thinking and healthy challenge.

  • Partner closely with senior stakeholders and influence real‑world lending decisions.
  • Grow your leadership capability in a highly visible, strategically important role.
