Retail Banking Services (RBS) is the public face of CommBank, delivering a seamless banking experience for the future, to our 10 million + personal and small business customers. RBS product Domains will manufacturer the full suite of retail products including deposit accounts, home loans and credit cards. RBS distribution Domains will distribute both proprietary product (home loans, deposit accounts and credit cards) and 3rd party product (general insurance, life insurance and car sales).  The RBS Domains are also responsible for digital spaces including web and app services, customer communications, CBA customer recognition programs such as CommBank Yello, strategic relationships such as More and Amber, and Open Banking.

The purpose of the role is to lead the RBS Compliance Advisory team which provides specialised advice to your Domain(s) (line of business team) to ensure our retail products and services are provided in compliance with all financial services and other applicable laws and regulatory requirements. The role operates as a trusted advisor, supporting robust decision‑making while maintaining clear Line 2 independence. It plays a key leadership role in navigating regulatory change, managing complex compliance risk, and embedding strong customer, conduct and fairness outcomes across RBS. 

Your day could look like but not limited to: 

  • Act as a subject matter expert across key RBS regulatory regimes including consumer protection, credit, payments, digital, data, conduct and customer fairness obligations.  

  • Pro-actively engage with business teams and provide clear, quality and decision-enabling advice to achieve compliance outcomes and mitigate risk. 

  • Identify emerging regulatory risks, enforcement trends and systemic issues, translating these into proactive advice and uplift opportunities. 

  • Partner with product and change teams on material initiatives and transformations, providing end‑to‑end advisory support from ideation through delivery and post‑implementation.  

  • Guide businesses through regulatory change impacts, implementation expectations and ongoing compliance obligations. 

What will you need to succeed in this role? 

The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of compliance, financial services regulation and retail banking products and distribution. You will also have experience in providing compliance advice to business teams including in relation to products and services, distribution processes delivering, managing and remediating issues and implementing regulatory change. You will also have strong stakeholder engagement skills, including experience in dealing with senior management. The required experience looks like: 

  • Australian Financial Services industry regulation knowledge, with a strong understanding of compliance and compliance management principles, frameworks and generally accepted industry practices (strongly desirable). 

  • Experience in compliance advisory roles, including role(s) with a focus on providing decision-enabling and articulate advice to achieve compliant outcomes. Experience advising on implementing regulatory change is highly regarded.  

  • Strong understanding of different regulatory environments including APRA prudential requirements, ASIC requirements and requirements from other key domestic or international regulators (such as ACMA). 

  • Proven ability to operate at senior leadership level, influencing outcomes without direct authority and the ability to apply sound professional judgement to determine when issues, risks or matters require escalation. 

  • Strong commercial judgement with an unwavering focus on customer outcomes, fairness and compliance integrity.  

  • Ability to manage high volumes of complex advisory work, prioritise effectively and operate with pace.  

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, change and evolving regulatory expectation.
