Senior Management Accountant

Purpose of the Role
The Senior Management Accountant will oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts and coordinate profit and loss statements for allocated business lines. The role ensures that financial results are produced to a high standard, with strong quality, integrity, and clarity for stakeholders. The role also leads and develops teams of subject matter experts, promotes best practice across the finance function, and works closely with the wider business to support operational and strategic needs. A strong focus will be on standardising and optimising accounting processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and control across the business.
Key Accountabilities
Management Accounting & Reporting
- Take ownership of the preparation and detailed understanding of monthly management accounts for designated business lines.
- Ensure delivery is timely, accurate, and fully compliant with internal and group reporting requirements.
- Maintain high standards of quality, integrity, and transparency within all financial reporting.
- Ensure balance sheets are robust, accurate, and thoroughly reviewed, with clear accountability within the team.
Leadership & Team Management
- Manage, develop, and motivate a team of accountants, providing appropriate challenge, guidance, and coaching.
- Support team development by building technical knowledge, professional judgement, and commercial understanding.
- Manage resource utilisation, task allocation, and key dependencies to ensure efficient and resilient working practices.
Business Partnering
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with financial and operational stakeholders.
- Act as the main point of contact for management accounting queries, providing clear explanations and insight.
- Ensure stakeholders have the knowledge and understanding required to interpret financial results accurately.
Process Improvement & Optimisation
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and deliver efficiencies and cost savings.
- Standardise processes across business lines where possible, leveraging synergies in finance operations.
- Take ownership of process improvement initiatives from identification through to implementation.
- Promote strong process discipline, control, and best practice across the business.
Technical Expertise & Judgement
- Act as a technical specialist within the Accounting and Reporting function.
- Resolve complex and diverse accounting queries using professional judgement.
- Support and upskill the team by sharing technical knowledge and best practice.
Internal Controls & Audit
- Coordinate all activities relating to internal controls and internal audit within Accounting and Reporting.
- Ensure agreed actions are clearly owned, tracked, and delivered within required deadlines.
- Support the maintenance of a strong control environment and compliance culture.
Education & Qualifications
- Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
