Providing enterprise legal and regulatory support to a wide variety of stakeholders, including Legal Services, Risk, Client Management, Communications, Finance, Compliance, and Investment teams to further AIMCo’s business and strategic objectives.
Work with GC and business to ensure both existing and new activities comply with privacy laws and regulations, including completing data privacy impact assessments.
Respond to access to information requests in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
Instruct and supervise external counsel with respect to corporate litigation matters.
Regulatory horizon scanning, monitoring and maintenance, including reviewing primary and secondary resources regarding new and amended regulations and other regulatory topics applicable to AIMCo. For example, regulations regarding anti-bribery and corruption, anti-money laundering, sanctions and sustainable investing.
Support AIMCo foreign offices in ensuring compliance with local regulatory requirements.
Assisting and advising on the development of AIMCo policies and guidelines.
Instruct and supervise external counsel with respect to regulatory matters and day-to-day enterprise matters across multiple jurisdictions.
6+ years post-call experience in regulatory law gained from a major law firm, regulator, financial institution, or government office.
Law degree (J.D. or LL.B.) from an accredited law school
Called to the Alberta Bar and member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
Prior experience advising on regulatory obligations for an institutional investor or financial institution, such as those related to sanctions and anti-money laundering is an asset.
Prior experience providing legal support with respect to privacy and data privacy impact assessments is an asset.
Understanding of legal issues arising from investing in private and public markets and doing business in foreign jurisdictions
Excellent legal and business judgment.
Excellent written and oral communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts and conclusions into a language applicable to the targeted audience.
Well-established interpersonal relationship-building skills and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Highly motivated team player with a proven ability to manage several different priorities at one time, including under tight timelines.
