Join our Information Technology team as a Senior Project Manager to provide strategic direction, coordination and tracking of organization priority projects, large-scale projects as it relates to IT Operations, Information Security (Cyber) and Technical Support. The Senior PM will also lead and support overall efforts to streamline and refine IT best practices and processes.

Who We Are

The Information Technology (IT) department supports and improves a broad portfolio of technologies to support our staff. IT ensures that all ASPCA staff, partners, and communities have the systems needed to work effectively and efficiently to improve animal welfare. The sub-teams within IT include Product, Data and Reporting Solutions, Operations and Information Security, Technical Support, Enterprise Architecture, and Business Operations.

What You’ll Do

The IT Ops, Information Security (Cyber) & Technical Support Senior Project Manager (PM), Information Technology, reports directly to the Senior Director, IT Business Operations. The Senior PM is an integral role on the IT team, making sure that the planning and execution of our initiatives accurately captures our organizational values and involves/invests key stakeholders in the success of those initiatives. The IT team regularly partners with teams across the organization to support the achievement of team-specific and organization-wide goals; similarly, the Senior PM will regularly listen to and learn from teams’ respective operations and goals to develop robust project plans that are geared toward success for IT projects.  

The Senior PM provides strategic direction, coordination and tracking of organization priority projects, large-scale projects as it relates to IT Operations, Information Security (Cyber) and Technical Support. The Senior PM will also lead and support overall efforts to streamline and refine IT best practices and processes.

The Senior PM will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to create and support simple, scalable, compliant, and more automated ASPCA mission-critical information and systems. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, be a self-starter and team player, and have a desire to support the ASPCA in achieving our mission of ending cruelty to animals.

In this position, you will never be bored! The ASPCA supports a broad portfolio of technologies to support a highly mobile and diverse staff. Maintaining a presence in multiple geographic locations, the team provides support (hands-on and remote) to over a dozen facilities and field operations, and over a thousand individual staff members. Your work will be integral to the organization as you work cross-functionally to ensure ASPCA staff, partners and communities have the tools needed to work effectively and efficiently to improve animal welfare.

Where and When You’ll Work

  • This remote-based position (which requires travel, as described below) is open to all eligible candidates based within the United States.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% annually, as needed.

Compensation

The applicable target hiring range for this remote role is based on where the employee works, which for remote roles is the employee’s primary location of residence, and its respective cost of labor. We have organized the U.S. varying costs of labor index into three geographic zones. As a point of reference, below, we have included our ASPCA locations by geographic zone to illustrate what the hiring range would be in each of the following areas. 

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary ranges for this role are set forth below and may be modified in the future.  

  • Zone 1 (For example, Asheville, NC; Champaign, IL; Columbus, OH; Gainesville, FL; Miami, FL; Oklahoma City, OK; Overland, KS; Union, MO; Weaverville, NC): $119,000 - $126,000 annually

  • Zone 2 (For example, Washington D.C.; Los Angeles, CA): $132,000 – 139,000 annually

  • Zone 3 (For example, New York, NY): $145,000-$153,000 annually

Contribute to the ASPCA’s Strategic Initiatives through Project Management:

 

  • Lead and manage cross-functional projects within IT Operations, Information Security (Cyber), and Technical Support areas

  • Manage the execution of key technology projects involving physical site builds, updates, and infrastructure changes

  • Lead all project management activities to effectively and efficiently track multiple work streams across departments, ensuring timely progress, consistent project updates and clear communication

  • Proactively manage scope, actions, issues, and risks to ensure project success; follow change control procedures effectively

  • Lead meeting planning and facilitation, including project team meetings, stand-ups/check-ins, document reviews, lessons learned, discovery/requirements gathering and client-driven meetings

  • Develop and cultivate strong relationships with leaders to encourage and facilitate timely decision-making 

  • Field questions from department heads and other staff members about timing of deliverables

  • Draft project specific updates for internal communications, including Workvivio (intranet) and organizational newsletters (The Scoop) or emails

  • Partner with key internal IT team partners ( Finance, Legal, Internal Communications) to ensure those stakeholders are informed of project progress and aware of their role and timing to support the project success when/if the project requires adherence to Finance, Legal or Communication policies e.g. RFP Process, Purchase Orders, Contracts Reviews, Org-Wide Comms etc.

  • Engage required stakeholders and facilitate activities to ensure successful testing, training, change management, communications, and post-production support

  • Provide regular updates to leadership on project status, risks, and outcomes using Planview AdaptiveWork (our enterprise project management tool)

  • Improve delivery timelines and reduce bottlenecks caused by dual-role SME responsibilities

 

Provide Project Management Support and Recommendations for Other Key IT Initiatives:

 

  • Support the overall strategic vision for the IT Ops and Information Security and Technical Support teams and manage project execution against organizational key results and compliance requirements, in partnership with the Senior Director, IT Business Operations  

  • Create and maintain Planview for the IT Operations Information security and Technical Support teams projects status throughout their project life cycle

  • Establish a regular review cadence with the IT leadership team to report on key risks and overdue projects in the IT Operations and Information Security and Technical Support project areas

  • Support other IT team projects to ensure alignment with reporting requirements and organizational core values and provide coaching to SMEs leading projects that may need assistance  

  • Partner within the Senior Director, IT Business Operations to improve processes and reporting, suggesting revisions to streamline and implement changes and challenge existing project management processes with innovation in mind 

  • Build a strong understanding of all ASPCA operations to influence organizational IT priorities and align project support against those priorities 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Extensive experience in managing large-scale IT projects, with expertise in Cyber Security, IT Operations, Networking, Infrastructure, and End-User Support

  • Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively engage all levels of management, including executives

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in fast-paced environments, navigating competing priorities and adapting quickly to change

  • Proficient in project management tools and methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall. Familiarity with our enterprise PM Tool Planview AdaptiveWork a plus

  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining project tracking systems.

  • Self-motivated leader who provides strategic direction and drives projects independently with minimal guidance

  • Solid understanding of organizational structures, teamwork, and project management best practices

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong sense of business issues and opportunities; able to generate innovative solutions

  • In-depth knowledge of IT operations, cybersecurity principles, and enterprise support models

  • High integrity and discretion; able to handle sensitive information confidentially

  • Experienced in facilitating meetings and maintaining a positive, customer-focused attitude

  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; collaborative team player who shares knowledge and supports colleagues

  • Love of animals and an interest in the organization’s mission of animal welfare is a plus!

Education and Work Experience

 

  • High School degree or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred 

  • PMP, CISSP, or similar certification required

  • Preferably 10 years of project management experience, with a minimum of 7 years leading large-scale IT Operations, Information Security (Cyber) and Technical Support IT projects (building tracking systems, implementation of processes and deliverables) in a large business or non-profit  

  • Experience overseeing high-visibility/high-budget project portfolios

  • Experience with Azure, Azure Integration Services, Meraki, Sentinel One, SIEM, networking and security firewalls required

  • Experience leading IT Infrastructure (server, network) and Information Security (Cyber, Firewall)  projects with internal and external development resources

  • Demonstrated experience with agile methodology, including release and sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives

  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required; advanced project management platform skills preferred 

  • Experience working in organizations with at least 500 employees preferred
