The Pension Investment Team is accountable for selecting best in class asset managers and managing those relationships in support of achieving investment returns sufficient to meet our pension liabilities. We provide stakeholders with clear and informative communications, maintain and adhere to plan governance, and seek to constantly improve the quality and performance of our investments.   

The Senior Investment Analyst will provide support to the Senior Director and Executive Vice‐President Finance in carrying out the accountabilities of the Pension, Investment fund and Treasury Management Functions in accordance with applicable legislation, policies, programs, procedures and agreements. Provide advice, guidance and support to line managers and senior management in carrying out their financial control accountabilities through exercising professional and independent financial judgment.

These are term positions which may be for a period of up to 60 months, offers a competitive compensation package and are located in our Tiverton, Ontario OR Toronto, Ontario office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To be a professional analyst, with both an in‐depth and broad knowledge of financial concepts.

  • Provide support to the Senior Director and Executive Vice President Finance in carrying out the accountabilities of the pension, investment fund and treasury management functions in accordance with applicable legislation, policies, programs, procedures and agreements.

  • Provide advice, guidance and support to line managers and senior management in carrying out their financial control accountabilities through exercising professional and independent financial judgment.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Administer the pension plan, Investment fund and operating business’s cash flow requirements and processes.

  • Develop and administer the Pension plan, Investment fund and treasury performance monitoring process, including the monitoring of external stakeholders, such as fund managers, banks, investors, and service providers.

  • Provide advice, guidance and support to the line manager organizations as a specialist in the areas of portfolio management, investment concepts, hedging, liquidity management and ensure compliance.

  • Develop and provide investment and financial performance reports required to analyze and explain the drivers of the changes.

  • Develop and provide monthly fund rebalancing reports and recommend a course of action to bring the Fund’s asset mix in line with the investment policy mix when required.

  • Support capital raising activities of the business and maintain strong stakeholder relationships

  • Conduct detailed analysis of the financial and operational results and assist management in the interpretation of such results.

  • Conduct research on investment products and asset classes and assist management with the development of recommended changes to the Fund’s asset mix.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Education

  • Requires advance knowledge of financial and commerce concepts, principles and related disciplines including financial management systems and issues to develop investment management systems analysis.

  • Requires this knowledge to provide advice, guidance and support to the company in areas of portfolio management, investment concepts, investment performance, liquidity management, capital raising, as well as the development and administration of performance monitoring process.

  • Requires knowledge of computers to develop and administer related systems and performance monitoring processes.

  • Requires sound oral and written communications skills to present in person and in reports to others.

  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the successful completion of a four-year university in an appropriate field, plus a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation, or by having the equivalent level of education.

Experience

  • Requires experience in Bruce Power or a large company to the area of portfolio management, performance monitoring processes, investment, liquidity management, capital raising and financial concepts.

  • Requires experience in understand legislative requirements surrounding the administration of a pension plan, investment fund and treasury function and ensure they are adhered to.

  • Requires experience in the design and management related processes, performance reporting including analysis

  • Requires experience in a consultative role to provide sound effective financial guidance to line.

  • Requires experience in dealing with external stakeholders, such as fund managers, banks, investors and service providers.

  • A period of 6 years up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
