Senior Information Governance Manager

SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:

The Senior Information Governance Manager will be responsible for leading the Exelixis Records Program, actively participating in the Exelixis Information Governance Committee and its initiatives, and providing Litigation and eDiscovery project support.
 

Records Program: The SIGM will take a practical, hands-on, risk-based approach to developing the Records Program to meet the Company’s growth and needs over time.  Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing policies and employee training, managing enterprise records vendors, collaborating with IT on long term data preservation, maintaining the physical laboratory notebook archive, and actively monitoring Record Program compliance.
 

Information Governance: The SIGM will serve as an active member of the cross-functional Information Governance Committee to represent Legal’s interests in record-related topics, including collaborating with IT on the evaluation, standards, and governance for enterprise systems of record.
 

Litigation Support and eDiscovery:  Through familiarity with company records developed through management of the Records Program, this role will work closely with Compliance, our employment attorneys, our Intellectual Property team, IT, and outside counsel to provide comprehensive litigation discovery support, including Legal Hold management, internal factual research, and supervision of the transfer of both eDiscovery and physical media to outside counsel at the direction of Exelixis attorneys.
 

Knowledge Management and Related Operational Activities: With the success of these Records and Information Governance programs relying upon a well-trained employee base, this role will also ensure the operational success of these and other programs by leading training activities and developing educational resources on a range of records, IG, data management, and legal education topics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain, promote, and support Records Program policies, procedures, and implementation activities.

  • Develop and deliver effective Records Program training, including written materials, computer-based instruction, and live presentations to the extent necessary on various Records Program topics.

  • Maintain relevant and current Records Program governance and documentation to ensure compliance with internal business and external legal requirements; identify key Records Program issues for the Company and propose and implement programmatic changes to address them.

  • Collaborate with the Information Governance Council on enterprise initiatives of import to Legal, the Intellectual Property Legal team, and the Records Program.

  • Lead efforts to support comprehensive litigation support, including managing legal holds, supporting discovery, and serving as a liaison between data owners, IT, and outside counsel to ensure completeness of Exelixis’ litigation efforts.

  • Act as a Records Program and Information Governance resource for all Company departments.

  • Perform other duties as assigned/requested.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Education:

  • BS/BA degree and 9 years of relevant experience; or

  • MS/MA degree in and 7 years of relevant experience; or

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Preferred degree in Library Sciences, Information Science, Data Studies, Chemistry, Biology or a similar life science.

  • Certified Records Manager (CRM) or Information Governance Professional (IGP), preferred.

  • Certified eDiscovery professional (e.g., Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists), and/or California Certified Paralegal or equivalent paralegal qualifications under California Business and Professions Code section 6450(c) highly desirable.

Experience:

  • Must have experience in one or more roles primarily responsible for Records Management and/or Information Governance.

  • Must have experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and/or similarly regulated life science industries; individuals working professionally in academia within these specialties or within law firms directly serving clients in these industries will be considered.

  • Experience working with attorneys and participating in legal discovery is highly preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be an effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills

  • Strong organization, project management, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, operate independently, prioritize appropriately, adapt quickly to new situations, and offer creative solutions to challenging problems

  • Must be responsible, conscientious, and professional

  • Ability to work under pressure to meet specific deadlines

  • Must have strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), experience with databases and search queries, advanced experience with Internet research, etc.).

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $142,000 - $201,000 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate’s geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.
