Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Collaboration with the HR Organization
Works in close collaboration with HR to effectively and efficiently utilize the capabilities of the central HR organization.
Proactively partners with unit leadership to provide guidance and direction to the department managers regarding HR policies, values, benefits, compensation and applicable employment laws/regulations and policies.
Facilitates key HR initiatives that support departmental organizational vision.
Support of the assigned Unit
Provides basic employee relations support in conjunction with the assigned Employee Relations team member. May assist with departmental investigations as applicable.
Develops and delivers an education and training program to managers ensuring that management best practices are consistent across the departmental organization.
Helps facilitate difficult conversations between managers and employees; provides support with the process and documentation as required. Assists in the performance improvement process as needed.
Facilitates the employee on-boarding experience as part of a broader retention initiative.
Uses a data driven approach to develop and execute strategies to retain and develop employees within the department.
Defines and implements quality performance management process and attain successful outcomes demonstrated by a high performing workforce.
Assists with the development and implementation of succession planning across the Department.
Defines and implements diversity and inclusion initiatives which support the goals and objectives of the University.
Partners with department and Compensation to provide equity and market evaluations. Updates and evaluates job descriptions. Helps perform job evaluations and maintain overall department organizational structure. Works with Compensation in determining the potential need for creating new job descriptions when existing job descriptions do not meet the department needs.
Provides the department with advice and reporting on leaves and leave management and return to work best practices as necessary.
Staffing and Sourcing
Works with recruitment to develop and executes sourcing strategies for exempt and non-exempt hiring.
Assists with applicant screening and sourcing as necessary.
May work with vendor management to define and execute contractor-hiring strategies.
May oversee the on-boarding and off boarding of all staff and contract labor.
Other duties as required.
