Senior HR Generalist

About the role 

The Senior HR Generalist will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of Dremio’s People Operations team, with a primary focus on supporting our employees in Portugal and EMEA while collaborating closely with global HR partners.  This role requires strong expertise in Portuguese labor law, HR operations, and employee relations, along with the ability to manage multiple HR programs across the employee lifecycle. The Senior HR Generalist will oversee critical HR functions such as onboarding, offboarding, compliance, leave management, immigration coordination, and employee experience initiatives.

 

Working within a fast-paced, global technology company, this role will partner cross-functionally with teams such as Payroll, Finance, Legal, and IT to ensure HR programs and policies are implemented effectively and in compliance with Portuguese and EU employment regulations. What you’ll be doing 

Onboarding: 

• Lead the onboarding process for new hires in Portugal and support broader EMEA onboarding activities where needed.
• Partner with payroll providers and HRIS administrators to ensure accurate employee data entry, employment documentation, and benefits enrollment.
• Manage the preparation and delivery of onboarding materials and new hire orientation sessions.
• Ensure all required employment documentation is completed in accordance with Portuguese labor regulations.
• Coordinate with IT, Finance, and other internal teams to ensure new employees have the tools and resources needed for a successful start.
• Continuously evaluate and improve the onboarding experience and processes.

Offboarding: 

• Manage offboarding processes for voluntary and involuntary terminations in compliance with International labor law.
• Prepare exit documentation, coordinate with payroll for final salary calculations, and ensure proper termination procedures are followed.
• Conduct exit interviews and analyze trends to provide insights to leadership.
• Manage exit surveys and ensure feedback is captured to support continuous improvement.
• Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely deactivation of access and completion of offboarding tasks.

Compliance: 

• Ensure compliance with Portuguese labor law, EU employment regulations, and internal company policies.
• Maintain and update employment documentation, policies, and employee handbook content applicable to Portugal and EMEA.
• Partner with Legal, Payroll, Finance, and external advisors to ensure regulatory compliance related to employment practices.
• Support audits and ensure accurate maintenance of employee records in accordance with GDPR and data privacy requirements.
• Monitor regulatory updates and ensure HR practices remain compliant with evolving legislation.

 

Leave of Absence Management

• Manage leave of absence processes in accordance with Portuguese labor law, including parental leave, sick leave, and other statutory or company-provided leave programs.
• Partner with employees and managers to ensure smooth coordination of leave requests and return-to-work transitions.
• Maintain accurate documentation and tracking of leave statuses in accordance with local requirements.
• Provide guidance to managers and employees regarding leave entitlements and procedures.

 

Immigration: 

• Support immigration and work authorization processes for employees relocating to Portugal or requiring Portuguese work authorization.
• Partner with external immigration counsel to coordinate visa and residency permit processes.
• Serve as a point of contact for employees with questions related to immigration, relocation, and cross-border mobility.
• Ensure documentation and processes comply with Portuguese immigration requirements.

 

HR Metrics and Reporting:

• Prepare HR reports and workforce analytics to support business and People team decision-making.
• Maintain accurate HRIS data and conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity and compliance.
• Support the preparation of HR dashboards and reports for leadership.

HRIS: 

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the HRIS system.
• Conduct periodic audits to ensure data integrity and compliance with internal standards.
• Ensure data privacy and confidentiality standards are met at all times.

 

Employee Status changes: 

• Oversee processing personnel action notices (PANs), compensation changes, and employment status modifications.
• Interface with payroll management and HR teams to ensure proper documentation and timely updates in employee records.

 

HR Programs: 

• Support the implementation and management of HR programs and initiatives including employee engagement programs, recognition initiatives, and internal surveys.
• Partner with global HR teams on the rollout of company-wide programs such as performance reviews, compensation planning, and employee development initiatives.
• Contribute to initiatives that enhance employee experience and organizational culture.

 

Office Management

• Serve as the primary point of contact for some day-to-day office operations in the Portugal office.
• Coordinate with building management, vendors, and service providers for office maintenance, supplies, and workplace needs.
• Manage office-related logistics including workspace setup, office equipment, and supply inventory.
• Partner with IT and Facilities to ensure employees have appropriate workspace tools and resources.
• Support planning and coordination of in-office events, team gatherings, and employee engagement activities.
• Assist with workplace safety procedures and ensure compliance with local workplace regulations.
• Help maintain an organized, inclusive, and positive office environment that reflects company culture.
• Support visiting employees, leadership, or candidates traveling to the Portugal office by coordinating logistics as needed.

What we’re looking for 

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
• 3–6 years of HR experience, preferably supporting employees in Portugal or the broader EMEA region
• Strong understanding of International labor law and employment practices
• Experience supporting onboarding, offboarding, employee relations, and compliance
• Familiarity with HRIS systems and HR data reporting
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across international teams
• Highly organized with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across the organization
