Salary range: From £62,400 - £77,900 DOE   

10% Management Scheme Bonus

The Hospital Contracts Operations Manager leads the operational delivery of Bupa’s hospital provider network, with a particular focus on the core portfolio of smaller and less strategic hospital providers, NHS hospital provider strategy, and the development of new provider networks (including Dental).

The role is accountable for ensuring robust contract management, operational excellence, and process improvement across a large and diverse portfolio, while supporting business development and the efficient onboarding of new providers. The Operations Manager is responsible for leading and developing the operational team, ensuring effective workload distribution, compliance, and continuous improvement in all aspects of provider management. 

 

 

How you’ll help us make health happen: 

 

  • Operational management of the core hospital provider portfolio (majority of smaller, less strategic providers, representing c. 30% of overall hospital claims spend). 

  • Oversight of NHS hospital provider strategy and management of relationships with NHS providers. 

  • End-to-end management of the new hospital provider recognition process, ensuring timely and compliant onboarding. 

  • Coordination and execution of Provider Networks contract renewals for the operational portfolio. 

  • Development and operational delivery of the new Dental Network, including provider onboarding and contract management. 

  • Leadership of business development initiatives related to key specialties within the operational portfolio. 

  • Process improvement and automation: Identifying, implementing, and embedding operational efficiencies and best practices. 

  • Team leadership: Managing, developing, and supporting a team of Hospital Contracts Assistants and a Team Leader, ensuring effective workload distribution and high performance. 

 

 

 

Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role: 

 

  • Strong commercial skills. Identifies and understands risks, opportunities and impacts on customers and the business, and is able to develop and deliver effective solutions. 

  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills. Works with large data sets to identify trends, issues and opportunities and to model impacts on customers and the business. 

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, explaining complex issues clearly and concisely, presenting compelling arguments / proposals using fact based evidence and research, adapting style for maximum impact with audiences. 

  • Systematic approach to managing own workload and projects, prioritising competing demands from multiple stakeholders. 

  • Track record of rapid and successful delivery of performance improvements in a challenging environment, working with third party providers. 

  • Builds effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, able to challenge constructively and resolve conflict / issues productively. 

  • Experience of negotiating with third parties to agree complex contracts, addressing conflicting priorities and securing favourable outcomes. 

  • Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy of contract information and reporting. 

  • Strong team player, focussed on delivering own objectives while enabling / supporting others to deliver theirs. 

  • A role model to others. Energetic, positive attitude to work, sharing experience with and coaching others, gives and listens to honest feedback.
