Business Unit Overview

This position is part of Novanta Advanced Surgery (AS), which develops devices and accessories that enable doctors to operate using minimally invasive techniques. We produce video management systems, insufflators, medical pumps, and tubing, making diagnosis and treatment easier for everyone.

The successful candidate will become a member of our Novanta R&D Design Center in Brno, which provides a wide range of R&D services for various Novanta business units. Job Summary

Responsible for sustaining and improving the hardware design of existing electronic products in production, including hardware redesign and end-of-life (EOL) component management.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues in production.
  • Product engineering and redesign of existing products, including schematic design, layout updates, and production data generation.
  • Enhancement and support of existing products (e.g., VAVE activities).
  • Functional testing and verification of hardware (FAI).
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders and other engineers.
  • Execute tasks in accordance with hardware development processes, procedures, and specifications.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including electronics drawings and BOMs.
  • Manage repository control of hardware documentation.

General Tasks

  • Ensure strict compliance with quality, occupational safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Adhere to company ISO certification requirements.

Required Experience, Education, Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electronics Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of post-graduate industrial experience in electronics hardware development.
  • Strong understanding of analog, digital, and embedded electronics (microcontroller-controlled systems); proficient in reading and understanding schematics.
  • Hands-on skills in electronics prototyping, soldering, and use of lab instruments (e.g., oscilloscopes, power supplies).
  • Understanding of component functionality at the system level (e.g., LCDs, motors, sensors, power supplies).
  • Familiarity with the electronics components market and ability to research alternative components.
  • Experience in obsolescence management at the component and part level.
  • Proficient in schematic entry; PCB layout experience is an advantage.
  • Experience with EMC and safety standards certification is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of ESD protection principles and Product Lifecycle Management.
  • Understanding of component environmental compliance is an advantage.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
