Pleo

Senior Full Stack Data Analyst - Marketing Analytics (Mat Leave Cover)

Lisbon, Portugal, Madrid, Spain, London, United Kingdom Full Time

Intro

At Pleo, we’re on a mission to revolutionise the way businesses manage company spending. No more outdated processes, clunky spreadsheets, or frustrating delays - we believe spend management should be seamless, empowering, and surprisingly effective for finance teams and employees alike. We’re creating tools that promote autonomy, foster trust, and let businesses focus on what truly matters.

Our culture is built on transparency, collaboration, and a deep commitment to innovation – which is reflected in our spending solution. At Pleo, you’ll join a passionate team shaping the future of work, all while having some fun along the way.

About the role

In this unique hybrid role, you will wear two hats. First and foremost (approx. 70%), you will be a senior Individual Contributor focused on our Marketing group. You will architect, refactor, and build the analytics foundation that allows our B2B marketing engine to scale—think multi-touch attribution, ABM funnel tracking, and campaign ROI.

Second (approx. 30%), you will step into a Project Lead capacity for the wider Business Analytics team. You won’t be a people manager, but you will manage the work planning and delivery. You will own the team’s agile processes, unblock workflow, and ensure we deliver on our promises to the business. This is the perfect role for a senior analyst who wants to "try on" leadership shoes by driving a team's operational success.

What you’ll be doing

As a Full-Stack Analyst (The Hands-On Work):

  • Own the Marketing Data Domain: You will be the go-to expert for Marketing stakeholders, particularly Performance Marketing, ensuring they have the insights needed to optimize spend and strategy.
  • Refactor & Rebuild: You won't just maintain dashboards; you will refactor existing legacy models and build a new, robust attribution framework from the ground up to measure ROI accurately across our complex B2B buyer journey.
  • Deep-Dive Analysis: You will leverage SQL and dbt to model complex datasets (e.g., ABM metrics, funnel velocity) and visualize them for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Improve Data Quality: You will work with different stakeholders to ensure the tracking instrumentation (e.g., Segment, Amplitude) is set up correctly to capture the right signals.

As a Project Lead (The Leadership Work):

  • Run the Engine: You will facilitate the Business Analytics team’s agile rituals, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, ensuring the team remains focused and unblocked.
  • Manage the Pipeline: You will act as the "air traffic controller" for incoming requests from Finance, Sales, and Marketing, helping to triage, and assign workstreams.

What you bring

  • Senior Analytics Experience: You have deep experience in data analytics, with expert-level proficiency in SQL and dbt. You know how to model data for performance and scalability.
  • B2B Marketing Expertise: This is non-negotiable. You have "been there, done that" with B2B marketing analytics, specifically Account-Based Marketing (ABM). You understand the difference between a lead and an account, and you know how to measure Marketing ROI and ROAS.
  • Project Management: You are highly organized and have experience running agile processes (Scrum/Kanban) for a technical team. You know how to break down large projects into shippable tasks.
  • Communication Skills: You are comfortable navigating a "political" environment, aligning expectations between Sales and Marketing, and saying "no" when necessary to protect the team's focus.
  • Tech Stack: Familiarity with Python is a strong plus, as is experience with tracking tools like Segment or Amplitude.

Why is this role a good fit for you

This role is for you if:

  • You are a senior IC who is curious about leadership. You want to gain tangible management experience (running a team's delivery) without stepping away from the code completely.
  • You love the challenge of a "fixer" role—taking a complex, perhaps messy data environment and turning it into a well-oiled machine.
  • You want to work in a high-autonomy environment where you are trusted to lead initiatives, not just execute tasks.

This role may not be for you if:

  • You want to be 100% hands-off code (this is still 70% IC).
  • You have never worked in a B2B environment
  • You prefer to work in a silo rather than coordinating the work of others.

Who you’ll be working with and reporting to

You will be reporting to the Director of Data & Analytics, Lisa Bruns. You will also be working closely with the Business Analytics team (whom you will project manage) and collaborate with stakeholders across Marketing (Performance, Brand, Content), RevOps, and Finance.

How you’ll develop in this role

In your first few months, you will:

  • Prove your leadership: By organizing the team's workflow, you will demonstrate your ability to lead a high-performing unit, a key step for future Data Lead roles.
  • Master the domain: You will become the centre of knowledge on Marketing data, solving critical questions about where our revenue truly comes from.
  • Shape the culture: You will have the autonomy to improve how the team works, introducing better processes and standards that will outlast your tenure.

The package

The annual salary for this position varies based on your location:

  • United Kingdom: £88,100 - £98,000
  • Spain & Portugal: €91,000 - €100,500

The role can be based in either Spain, Portugal, or the UK. We can hire either remotely, hybrid or in office but you need to be physically based in any of those countries.

Transparency is important to us so we also wanted to share some insights about what we’re looking for in applications to ensure you can set yourself up for success!

Last time we hired a Senior Fullstack Data Analyst, we received a total of 200 applications but only 10 were selected for an intro call. Some of the key reasons why previous candidates didn’t make it past the application screening stage include:

  • CV writing and content: it was very clear that many of the CVs we saw were very generic and AI generated. There is no issue with leveraging AI to help with CV writing, there was little indication of what real impact the candidates had in their previous experience. You might have heard of the “Achieved X, as measured by Y, by doing Z” formula (credit Laszlo Bock ~2014), this is a great way to give a clear picture of what you have actually worked on. Also don’t assume we know all the companies listed on your CV, a hyperlink or quick description greatly helps!
  • Application care: every single application we receive is reviewed by a human (yes, hundreds of them) because we believe that candidates' efforts should be matched by an equal level of human care. This means that we expect a similar level of attention put into your application. Read and answer the application questions carefully, they make a huge difference in our decision-making process.
  • Profile to role fit: there was misunderstanding about the type of experience we expect from a Senior Fullstack Data Analyst and we received many applications from candidates who had never been exposed to a product-led environment or had been exclusively focused on BI work. We’ve taken great care in writing this role description to reflect the reality of the job as best as possible, please ensure you read it carefully and highlight on your CV the experience relevant to what we are looking for.

Why join us?

Working at Pleo means you're working on something very exciting: the future of work. Our mission is to help every company go beyond the books. Pleo itself means ‘more than you’d expect’, and it’s been the secret to our success over the last 8 years. So it’s only fitting that we’d pass this philosophy onto our customers to help them make the most of their finances.

We think company spending should be delegated to all employees and teams, that it should be as automated as possible, and that it should drive a culture of responsible spending. Finance teams shouldn’t be siloed from the rest of the organisation – they should work in unity with marketing, sales, IT and everyone else.

Speaking of working in unity, our values tell the story of how we work at Pleo. We have four core values, the first of which is ‘champion the customer’, which means we address real pain points that businesses face. Next up is ‘succeed as a team’, which highlights how our strength lies in our diversity and trust in each other. We also ‘make it happen’ by taking bold decisions and following through to deliver results. Last but not least, we ‘build to scale’, creating lasting solutions that address today’s challenges and anticipate tomorrow’s needs.

So, in a nutshell, that's Pleo. Today we are a 850+ team, from over 100 nations, sitting in our Copenhagen HQ, London, Stockholm, Berlin, Madrid, Montreal and Lisbon offices —and quite a few full-time remotes in 35 other countries! Being HQ'd out of Copenhagen means we're inspired by things like a good work-life balance. If you don't work in the office with us, we'll help you set up the best remote setup possible and make sure you still have time to connect with your team.
