About the FP&A team:
Our Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team drives superior outcomes for Clio, financial and beyond. We are currently in our scale up phase which presents a very unique time to join one of Canada’s most successful tech companies and have an outsized impact from your efforts! We are on a mission to become a world - class FP&A team. That means we work hard, play for keeps, and dedicate ourselves to making sure #TeamMoney thrives as we scale.
About the Role
At Clio, R&D is the engine of our growth. We are looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to be the strategic navigator for our Engineering and Product organizations.
This is not a "maintenance mode" role. We need a builder. You will not just be reporting on the numbers; you will be hunting for the stories behind them. We are looking for someone who looks at a spiked cloud bill or a hiring variance and feels compelled to ask "Why?" until they find the root cause.
Work with the team in supporting business partnering with Engineering & Product leadership.
Go beyond the "what" (reporting) to the "why" (insights). Investigate anomalies in cloud spend (AWS), software tooling, and headcount utilization to drive efficiency.
Translate complex financial concepts into clear, actionable language for non-finance stakeholders.
Own the R&D P&L: Manage the end-to-end forecasting, budgeting, and month-end close processes for the R&D function.
Headcount Management: Tracking the movement of our largest asset—our people. You will model hiring ramps, attrition, and capitalization with high precision.
Cloud Cost Analysis/AI Cost analysis: Partner with Engineering and Product to model usage and forecast costs, ensuring our gross margins scale effectively as we grow.
Design for Scale: Take unstructured data and ad-hoc spreadsheets and transform them into repeatable, scalable financial models and dashboards.
Process Architecture: Identify broken or manual processes (e.g., how we track software licenses) and build automated, structured solutions to fix them permanently.
Synthesize data from disparate systems (HRIS, ERP, Cloud Usage) to create a single source of truth.
Build dynamic financial models that can handle scenario planning (Best Case / Worst Case) on the fly.
You have extreme attention to detail. You have a strong motivation to make sure that the data that you are producing is as accurate as possible, while being scalable, and assumptions that are meticulously recorded.
You are relentlessly curious. You aren't satisfied with surface-level answers. You enjoy "peeling back the onion" to understand the operational drivers behind a financial variance.
You love the "Messy Middle." You don't need a perfect roadmap to get started. You thrive in ambiguous situations where you have to structure the data, define the metrics, and build the solution from scratch.
You are a Data Wrangler. You are not intimidated by large datasets. You know how to pull, clean, and structure data to make it usable.
You have an Ownership Mindset. You treat the business as if it were your own. You don't just flag a problem; you drive the solution until it is resolved.
4+ years of experience in FP&A, Strategic Finance, or a highly analytical Business Ops role. CPA, CFA or MBA degree is a plus
SaaS Experience: Strong understanding of SaaS metrics (R&D as % of Revenue, CAC, Gross Margin, ARR).
Technical Stack: Proficiency in Google Sheets and modeling is mandatory. Experience with planning tools (Pigment, Adaptive, Anaplan) and visualization tools (Tableau, Looker) is highly preferred.
The "Huge Plus": Experience with SQL or working with large datasets. If you can query your own data without waiting for a Data Engineer, we want to talk to you.
