Job Description

This role is responsible for handling the preparation, analysis and delivery of financial reports on multiple accounting frameworks (e.g. US GAAP, IFRS17, US Statutory (US STAT), Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA), Economic Capital (EC), and other local regulatory/internal bases as required). The role involves close collaboration with Financial Management and Treasury, Financial Reporting and Tax, Actuarial and other teams within PL Re and its parent company, Pacific Life (PL).  PL Re’s primary statutory reporting basis is US GAAP, as a Division of a US based parent, and with the top divisional entities reporting on a US GAAP basis.

This role is to serve as a key contributor to the accounting and financial reporting and supporting finance-related project activities as required.

How you’ll help move us forward:

  • Critically analyze ledger balances and provide clear explanations for quarterly and annual variances and movements.
  • Prepare internal reports for senior management, highlighting key drivers of financial performance.
  • Support the reinsurance accounting and financial reporting function in meeting monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables.
  • Assist with the financial statement close process by preparing or reviewing journal entries, system feeds, and ad hoc reports.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations, maintain supporting schedules, and investigate reconciling items.
  • Perform data validations and financial analyses to generate entries supporting GAAP, IFRS, Statutory, and other reporting bases (EC/BMA).
  • Adhere to established internal controls, financial policies, and operational procedures.
  • Conduct accounting research and document accounting policies across various GAAP bases.
  • Monitor developments in accounting standards and regulatory requirements, assess their financial reporting impact, and implement required updates.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, support audit activities, and address inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support cross-functional Finance processes, including Investments, Treasury, and Reinsurance Accounting & Reporting.
  • Contribute to Finance initiatives such as new system implementations, enhancements, and accounting standard changes.
  • Support the Back Office transformation initiative (Project Unify) through process improvement and system integration activities.
  • Coordinate departmental process improvement initiatives and maintain updated documentation.
  • Provide training and onboarding support for new team members.
  • Support the Manager and leadership team with strategic initiatives and ad hoc projects.

 Qualifications and Experience

  • 3+ years of post-qualified experience in the (re)insurance or financial services industries.
  • CPA designation or membership in another recognized professional accounting body.
  • University Degree in Finance / Accounting
  • Strong US GAAP knowledge.
  • Strong regulatory reporting experience (PRA, BMA, NAIC or OSFI), including experience in a multiple regulatory environment.
  • Strong commercial understanding of (re)insurance business.
