    Job Summary


    The Internal Auditor executes financial, regulatory, operational and compliance audits of varying scope and complexity to evaluate internal controls and builds understanding of business and industry risks in support of the organization’s risk management objectives.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Performs audits in a professional manner and in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards and IIA standards.
    • Executes audits and performs analyses to support conclusions regarding the effectiveness of financial and operational internal controls; maintains complete and accurate audit documentation.
    • Uses a risk‑based audit methodology, including conducting interviews and walkthroughs, reviewing processes and documentation, making inquiries and observations, analyzing results and evaluating the design and effectiveness of internal controls.
    • Assists in summarizing, documenting and validating audit results to ensure accuracy and completeness of reported facts.
    • Communicates audit findings and provides practical recommendations to business units and management to address identified risks and opportunities for improvement.
    • Participates in organizational risk assessments and the development of the internal audit plan.
    • Develops and maintains knowledge of ECMC Group operations, business requirements and relevant industry and regulatory trends.
    • Collaborates with compliance, legal, human resources, information security and other stakeholders on audit‑related and risk management matters.
    • Builds effective working relationships with business units, compliance teams and external stakeholders (e.g., regulators, external auditors, serviced guarantors) to support audit readiness and response efforts.
    • Collaborates with the internal audit team to identify, assess and document risks during audit planning and execution.
    • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field, or 4+ years of student loan work experience or 3+ years of experience in internal audit, public accounting or risk management within financial services or a comparably regulated industry in lieu of degree
    • Demonstrated ability to independently plan, coordinate and execute through completed projects and initiatives.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Relevant certifications (e.g., CISA, CIA, CPA)

    The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as relevant experience, peer and market benchmarks, and geographic location.
