About the role

The primary purpose of the role is to deliver on month-end accounting, performance reporting and process improvement for the Financial Instruments portfolio. The role will also be responsible for supporting and providing accounting and commercial evaluations of Trading & Origination projects.


What You'll Be Doing:

Month-end accounting & performance reporting

  • Manage the month-end close process for the Trading and Origination Financial Instruments portfolio in accordance with AGL accounting standards.
  • Maintain sound financial governance of relevant balance sheet accounts through detailed review of reconciliations and providing insights into working capital movements.
  • Manage interaction with external audits and external regulators requests.
  • Provide monthly reporting and analysis of the financial performance to key stakeholders.
  • Support in-depth analysis, understanding, interpretation and explanation of major drivers of the Financial Instruments performance.
  • Seek out process improvement opportunities to constantly improve the quality of reporting.


Half-yearly external reporting

  • Prepare disclosure packs for half yearly external reporting
  • Liaising with external auditor queries at half year and year-end
  • Review the variance analysis and related commentary for Cashflow & Balance Sheet
  • Manage and review data for ad-hoc external parties and regulators (e.g. ACCC, ABS, ATO)


Commercial projects support

  • Contribute to the achievement of the Trading and Origination financial objectives and targets by contributing effective and value-add commercial analysis.
  • Provide input to Trading & Origination reporting and other ad-hoc analysis as required by the business and Finance management.
  • Coordinate advice from the Accounting Advisory team to determine the accounting treatment of new financial products and projects being assessed by the Trading and Origination business.
  • Promote and implement continuous improvement of the quality and efficiency of all financial reporting and financial instrument valuation processes.
  • Promote and implement continuous improvements of derivative accounting reporting system by working closely with development team and Risk teams.
  • Collaborate with the business to develop new systems and valuation models.

Team initiatives

  • Contribute to team meetings and team engagement initiatives
  • Contribute to team strategy and deliver on continuous improvement initiatives

What You'll Bring:
 

  • CA/CPA/ACA/MBA qualified

  • 5 years post qualification experience

  • Advanced user of Finance module of ERP (preferably SAP)

  • Advanced experience working with MS Excel & complex data sets

  • Ability to pick up new concepts quickly and connect business drivers to financials

  • Experience working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, outside of direct team
