Job Description Summary
A CT System Design Engineer collaborates with subsystem teams to lead the design and development of high‑quality CT products. As a subject‑matter expert in key components, such as the X‑ray tube, detector, scan control system, operator console, and imaging, the engineer tackles complex technical challenges, resolves issues, and leverages extensive expertise to create innovative solutions.
This role requires broad knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering, as well as an understanding of the control mechanisms that integrate these elements. In addition, knowledge of physics is essential for leading CT system design in both new product development and product improvements. By working closely with global sub‑function teams, the engineer contributes to achieving optimal system architecture.
Knowledge of quality management systems, risk management, and regulatory compliance is also required for this position.

Essential Responsibilities
GE HealthCare develops industry-leading X-ray clinical CT technologies and innovations that deliver applications and imaging capabilities enabling physicians and radiologists to enhance the level of patient care. As a CT System Design Engineer, you will be part of the innovative technical team that drives these advancements across the industry. You will report directly to the CT Systems Manager.

Key Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Working with cross-functional engineers, the marketing team, the product definition team, and the global team to define system requirements for new products and technology roadmaps.
- Collaborating across functions and team boundaries to define, design, and implement technology solutions for new product introductions.
- Utilizing broad technical expertise and experience to help resolve complex design issues with current products.
- Providing domain expertise to lead technical design reviews, investigate technical risks, and offer innovative solutions to achieve optimal system performance.
- Developing CT products through new product development programs.
- Providing technical leadership for project execution.
- Driving innovation for competitive technical differentiation.
- Defining CT requirements, integrating sub-systems, and managing risks through product programs.
- Developing methods to improve product quality and customer workflow, and delivering system-level designs to provide effective solutions.
Qualifications / Requirements
- BS degree in Computer Science, Software, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 5+ years of experience in systems design engineering or similar, preferably in medical imaging or a related industry.
- Scripting language coding experience with Python, MATLAB, etc.
- Effective communication skills – ability to present ideas clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrated ability to complete tasks.
- Proven problem-solving ability and results orientation.
- Business-level Japanese and English communication skills to drive local and global development work.
- Must be legally authorized to work full-time in Japan.
Desired Characteristics (but not limit to)
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Medical Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Experience in the development/research of medical imaging devices.
- Experience in CT product or major component development, particularly in physics areas.
- Proven record of innovation in technology development.
- Proficient in software/script coding and/or the use of software tools for analysis and simulation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Self-starter, energetic, results-oriented, and able to multi-task.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability and results orientation.
- Proven ability to work in a collaborative, matrixed, and customer-focused environment.
