Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for the CNS (Communication, Navigation, Surveillance) Hardware Engineering Group in Melbourne, Florida. The primary responsibility for this position will be the sustainment of existing VHF avionics radios ensuring continued reliability and performance of fielded systems.

This is an onsite position based in Melbourne, Florida.

What You Will Do:

  • Review and maintain awareness of obsolete parts on assigned VHF avionics radio systems; provide appropriate resolutions for obsolete components to ensure product sustainment.
  • Design and analyze analog and RF circuits for VHF radio systems using schematic capture tools and performance simulation tools.
  • Characterize analog and RF signals for VHF avionics radios using engineering lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
  • Design and analyze digital circuits, including computer hardware components (e.g., processors, memory, interfaces) and evaluate their performance characteristics (e.g., throughput, processing architecture, timing, capacity).
  • Supervise and provide technical guidance for PCB layout processes related to VHF radio systems.
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting and debug issues in VHF avionics radios using engineering tools.
  • Carry out validation and verification activities to ensure VHF radio products meet design specifications.
  • Contribute to engineering estimates for electrical design problems of limited to moderate scope on sustainment projects.
  • Review Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) defect trends, identify systemic root causes, and recommend process improvements to drive continuous enhancements in VHF avionics development and sustainment processes.

  • Deeper knowledge in electrical hardware simulation, analysis and design (digital, mixed signal, power, RF).
  • Collins development engineering processes and practices.
  • Aircraft/avionics certification processes.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • U.S. Person is required – Military contract stipulates the candidates must be U.S. Persons.
  • 3+ years of experience designing and analyzing analog and/or RF circuits using schematic capture tools and performance simulation tools.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience with RTCA DO-254 standards for Design Assurance Guidance for Airborne Electronic Hardware, particularly for VHF avionics radios.
  • Hands-on experience with environmental testing, including Temperature, RF Emissions, RF Susceptibility, and/or Lightning, with a focus on VHF radio systems.
  • Familiarity with radar standards for commercial applications and experience with sustainment engineering for avionics products.
  • A desire to work on sustainment products, ensuring reliability and performance of fielded VHF avionics radios.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
