Location: Scottsdale, AZ; Seattle, WA; San Francisco Bay Area, CA
Office Expectations: 4 days per week (Tuesday-Friday)
Reports to: VP, Engineering / Senior VP, R&D
Level: Senior Director
As Senior Director, RF & Wireless Systems Engineering, you will lead the technical strategy, organizational direction, and execution for wireless systems across Axon’s connected device portfolio. This role will own the development and scale of a high-impact engineering organization responsible for RF architecture, cellular and multi-radio integration, antenna and systems tradeoffs, coexistence and desense mitigation, certification readiness, lab validation, and real-world field performance.
You will work across a broad set of product categories, including body-worn, in-vehicle, and other embedded connected systems, ensuring Axon’s wireless capabilities are robust, scalable, and aligned to mission-critical customer needs. This leader will operate at the intersection of deep technical execution and organizational leadership, partnering closely with product management, electrical and mechanical engineering, firmware, software, operations, compliance, quality, and external vendors to drive end-to-end wireless systems excellence.
This is a senior leadership role for someone who can set long-range wireless strategy, build strong teams and leaders, make sound systems-level tradeoffs, and raise the bar for execution across multiple products and technical domains.
You will lead and grow the RF and wireless systems engineering organization, setting direction across architecture, integration, validation, and delivery for wireless capabilities spanning cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, and related technologies. You will define how teams operate across concept development, design reviews, system integration, coexistence mitigation, certification planning, and launch readiness, while ensuring strong alignment with product priorities and customer outcomes.
You will partner closely with cross-functional leaders across hardware, software, firmware, product, operations, and regulatory functions to drive decisions that balance wireless performance, reliability, power, cost, thermal constraints, manufacturability, certification risk, and time to market. You will also guide investments in tools, processes, test strategy, vendor engagement, and organizational structure so the team can scale effectively across multiple product lines and increasing system complexity.
As a senior leader, you will build and develop technical leaders and managers, strengthen engineering rigor, improve predictability and execution quality, and ensure Axon’s wireless systems are designed for real-world performance in demanding public safety environments. You will help shape portfolio-level direction, resolve cross-team tradeoffs, and serve as the senior engineering authority for RF and wireless systems strategy across the organization.
Wireless performance is foundational to the reliability and trustworthiness of Axon’s products. As our connected devices grow in complexity and importance, we need a senior engineering leader who can ensure our RF and wireless systems are not only technically sound, but also scalable across the portfolio and resilient in real-world use. This role is critical to building the systems, teams, and technical discipline needed to deliver dependable wireless performance in moments that matter most.
