Job Summary: This position is part of the US Election Assistance Commission. The incumbent will serve as a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act Analyst with the primary responsibility consisting of the production of FOIA records in response to requests received by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC). The selectee must physically report to the duty station, Washington, DC. This is not a 100% remote position.

Major Duties:

  • Reviews requested records for responsiveness and completeness.
  • Coordinates with internal EAC divisions, legal counsel, and external agencies to collect all responsive materials.
  • Analyzes whether there is any legal basis to assert an exemption to disclosure; coordinates with appropriate parties; and makes disclosure determinations on requests.
  • Updates and reports to EAC FOIA Officers regarding the status of production materials.
  • Assists in drafting interim and final response letters, acknowledgment communications, and determination notices to FOIA requesters.
  • Assists EAC attorneys with civil FOIA litigation by compiling records and complying with production schedules.

Qualifications: To qualify, applicants must have one-year (52 weeks) of full-time specialized experience. Specialized experience is experience which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the Government Information Specialist. More specifically, specialized experience for this position is defined as: experience reviewing complex materials, identifying issues, and making defensible decisions under legal, regulatory, or policy frameworks; experience communicating across teams with counsel or stakeholders, tracking deliverables, and keeping others informed of status or deadlines; experience drafting clear written products (e.g., correspondence, memorandum, reports), handling sensitive or confidential information, and applying discretion; and experience researching, compliance work, or process improvement.
