Job Description

RBC is seeking a visionary technology leader to drive the strategy, delivery, and operational excellence of a broad and complex technology portfolio spanning Wealth Management and Global Asset Management. As Senior Director, Portfolio Management Technology, you will hold accountability for critical client-facing platforms, trading infrastructure, and investment operations systems serving clients and advisors across North America.

In this senior leadership role, you will combine a long-horizon technology strategy with disciplined program execution across a geographically distributed, multi-product environment. You will lead a team of 50+ professionals, manage a CAD $45M+ annual technology budget, and serve as a key technology voice to senior business and executive stakeholders across the enterprise.

What You Will Do

Technology Strategy & Portfolio Delivery

  • Define and execute technology modernization strategy and delivery roadmaps across Portfolio Management, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy and business priorities.
  • Lead, develop, and inspire a team of 50+ software engineers, business systems analysts, QA specialists, and offshore resources, building a high-performance culture centered on technical excellence and accountability.
  • Drive best-in-class technical solutions by tracking closely industry leading solutions and applying to RBC architecture and security standards.
  • Oversee a portfolio of complex, interdependent programs spanning varying scopes, timelines, and geographies, maintaining delivery discipline and stakeholder confidence throughout.
  • Ensure robust infrastructure, vendor, and release management practices across all platforms.
  • Champion the adoption of emerging technologies — including Agentic AI and advanced automation — to drive measurable gains in engineering productivity and platform resilience.
  • Oversee custody operations technology, ensuring stability, scalability, and integration across the broader platform ecosystem.
  • Serve as a trusted technology advisor to senior business and executive stakeholders, translating complex portfolio health, delivery risk, and modernization progress into clear, actionable business narratives.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • 15+ years’ experience in complex technical program delivery within financial services, wealth management, or capital markets technology environments; including experience in a senior leadership role with accountability for large teams and significant budgets.
  • Proven track record managing complex, multi-program portfolios across geographically distributed teams and leading modern application development in complex infrastructure platforms.
  • Established history of driving technology transformation, operational efficiency, and delivery excellence at scale.
  • Strong stakeholder management and collaboration with business counterparts as well as cross-functional technical teams.
  • Domain Knowledge in Wealth Management & Global Asset Management: Trade order management systems, pre- and post-trade compliance, mutual fund manufacturing and operations, trade surveillance, investment reporting, regulatory reporting, and Custody Operations.
  • Commitment to mentorship, talent development, and building inclusive, high-performing teams.

Nice to Have:

  • CISA, CISM, or CISSP designations highly desirable
  • Advanced business qualification (MBA or equivalent) preferred.
