What you’ll be doing 

The Senior Director, Agile Capabilities is a key member of the Enterprise Agile Centre of Expertise (COE), responsible to drive the adoption of the end-to-end (E2E) operating model design and deployment across CIBC through driving the craft of the Product Owners. The Senior Director is accountable for defining and elevating the enterprise Product Owner craft. 

 

This role sets the standards, capability strategy, progression framework, and development pathways for Product Owners, ensuring consistent excellence in product vision, value realization, backlog discipline, stakeholder alignment, and client-centricity.  The role partners with Domain and Crew leadership to strengthen product maturity, align product decisions to enterprise strategy, and build a strong pipeline of future product leaders.

How you’ll succeed 

 

  • Operational Effectiveness - Define and continuously evolve the enterprise standards for the Product Owner craft, aligned to the E2E operating model and business strategy. Ensure clarity and consistency in expectations across Product Owners regarding vision and roadmap ownership, backlog and delivery excellence, risk and dependency management, and value realization. Shape cross-team and cross-domain product practices to improve enterprise delivery flow, predictability, and benefits. 

  • Capability Building - Define and lead the capability uplift strategy for Product Owners across multiple Domains. Embed structured development pathways aligned to progression levels, clarifying what “good” looks like at each stage. Establish enterprise-wide communities of practice, product forums, mentoring structures, and peer learning models. Strengthen core craft capabilities including: Product vision and roadmap formulation, Outcomes & value realization discipline, Strategic trade-offs & enterprise alignment, Client insight, journey design, and value validation loops; and technology expertise. Establish transparent performance standards and consistent evaluation criteria across Domains 

  • Enterprise Performance - Elevate product leadership standards across teams. Monitor product maturity trends and recommend systemic improvements to product practices, tooling, and governance. Foster a culture of client obsession, decisiveness, and collaborative leadership across the Product Owner community Build strong partnerships with Team Leads, Product Owners, Tech Leads, and Domain Leads to ensure coaching translates into tangible business and client outcomes. Promote knowledge sharing and cross-domain collaboration to accelerate enterprise-wide maturity. Act as the enterprise authority on the Product Owner craft, advising senior leaders on product maturity and capability gaps. Shape cross-functional alignment between product, technology, and business leaders to strengthen integrated product delivery. Ensure product leadership behaviors reinforce client-centricity, enterprise risk standards, and long-term strategic positioning
