NOTE: This role is based in New York City and encourages a minimum of two days per week in the SoHo office. Some roles or teams may require additional in-office attendance if the essential functions of the role require it.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We need a dedicated senior designer for the Harry Potter publishing program to support the Creative Director, Editorial Director, and Editor for all things Harry Potter, including all J.K. Rowling publishing (backlist and future publishing).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Art direction and design for all new Harry Potter/J.K. Rowling publishing and some licensed HP publishing
Creative development of new publishing, working collaboratively with Editorial, with a particular focus on generating proposals of design-led projects
File preparation, trafficking, review, and management for all new publishing and related print/digital sales materials
Creative development and design of custom/proprietary editions
Backlist development and maintenance, including repackages, reprints, and corrections
In-house point person for all inter-departmental file/design needs (Sales/Marketing/Publicity file requests, metadata images, foreign rights/co-editions)
Liaison with external publishers for Outside Purchase projects
Creation of internal and external presentation materials (i.e. project proposals, artist proposals, seasonal presentations, cover meetings, etc.)
Recruitment and management of freelance designers as needed

HOW YOU CAN FIT (Qualifications)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Deep and expert knowledge of the Adobe suite: Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
Creative thinker with dynamic portfolio showing ideas and art/type executions
Exceptional attention to detail and digital file preparation.

Effective communicator with good writing skills in order to communicate with artists, colleagues, and outside vendors.

Education: College degree: BFA in Design and/or illustration
