Saxo Bank

Senior Datacenter & Hardware Engineer

Headquarters Full time

Location: Copenhagen
Team: Infrastructure Development

About the Role

This role is about owning Saxo Bank’s physical infrastructure foundation. You’ll be responsible for our datacentres, physical server fleet, and the full lifecycle that comes with them procurement, renewals, capacity planning, and budgeting.

You will work on modernizing and scaling our underlying infrastructure, focusing on building platforms that are smarter, faster to deploy, and easier to operate. This is a hands‑on role for someone who understands that good infrastructure starts with solid hardware, realistic capacity planning, and long‑term thinking.

About the Team

You’ll join Infrastructure Development, a small team of about eight engineers with backgrounds spanning hardware, operating systems, and automation/scripting. We build full‑stack infrastructure solutions, including container platforms, VDI platforms, and dynamic test and development environments.

We focus on practical engineering, modern tooling, and platforms that are designed to scale and be operated not just built once.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and manage Saxo Bank’s datacentres and physical server fleet
  • Drive hardware procurement, including vendor dialogue, purchasing, and lifecycle management
  • Plan and manage yearly renewals and project budgets
  • Perform capacity management across:
    • Server compute
    • Power and cooling
    • Rack and room capacity
  • Design and build server platforms aligned with industry best practices and Saxo standards
  • Work closely with architects to turn designs into production‑ready, operable solutions
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd line support for infrastructure incidents, problems, and changes
  • Support enterprise platforms with a focus on scalability, reliability, and predictable growth

What You Bring

You’re a hands‑on, detail‑oriented infrastructure engineer who takes real pride in building platforms that stand the test of time. You think in years, not weeks, and you’re methodical, structured, and deliberate when it comes to hardware choices, capacity planning, and lifecycle decisions.

You naturally take end‑to‑end ownership from vendor dialogue and budgeting to deployment and production operations. You’re pragmatic, accountable, and calm under pressure, with a clear and direct communication style. You value transparency and trust, enjoy working with skilled peers, and challenge assumptions constructively when it leads to better reliability, scalability, and overall engineering quality.

  • 8+ years of hands‑on experience with datacentre and server infrastructure
  • Strong background in hardware platforms, server builds, and lifecycle management
  • Proven experience with capacity planning (compute, power, and space)
  • Solid understanding of procurement processes, budgeting, and vendor management
  • Experience operating physical and virtual infrastructure at enterprise scale
  • Working knowledge of PowerShell and comfort with tools like Git, VS Code, and Azure DevOps Pipelines
  • A pragmatic, engineering‑first mindset—you build it, you run it, you improve it
